The Classification & Compensation HR Consultant I is responsible for advising campus supervisors and first-line managers in their work planning and organizational development; provide first level triage review of all SHRA and EHRA requests for employment and salary actions. The HR Consultant I is also responsible for providing support in the area of position management, classification, and compensation by assisting users of the Aggie Talent position management module; maintaining user types and workflows; creating and maintaining university organizational charts; tracking and reporting actions.

The HR Consultant I applies knowledge of SHRA and EHRA position classification requirements, role descriptions, and competency standards. Facilitates the coordination, review, evaluation, and recommendation of adjustments within area of responsibility while adhering to existing policy, procedures, and practice. This includes job analysis, job evaluation, market pricing, assigning FLSA designation, and applying the internal pay decision tool.

This position focuses on actions for specific units / departments while collaborating with peers providing services and support for other units in order to provide seamless customer service and quick response times. The position partners at various levels across the university as well as the UNC System Office, Office of State Human Resources and other agencies and universities.

This position provides comprehensive support regarding compliance, regulation, policy, processes and initiatives to ensure alignment with NCA &T compensation programs and State / Federal guidelines. The HR Consultant I provides assistance in all occupational areas within Position Management. The responsibilities of this position also entail evaluation and endorsement of salary offers and adjustments resulting from the SHRA and EHRA employment and classification activity.

This involves determining the best compensation strategies for selected candidates and current employees while ensuring compliance with university, state, and federal regulations (e.g., OFCCP , EEOC , ADA , Office of State Human Resources, and UNC System Office) as well as best practices.

The position maintains compliance with regulations established by University of North Carolina System Office and the North Carolina Office of State Human Resources to guide managers in restructuring existing SHRA and EHRA positions and establishing new positions to most effectively meet the changing business needs of the University.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit :

The Classification and Compensation unit is responsible for working with university administrators to establish and maintain fair and equitable classification and salary decisions for the university’s workforce. The unit maintains the integrity of the University of North Carolina System’s career banding program, salary administration, and classification designations, as well as the Department of Labor’s prescribed Fair Labor Standards Act regulations. Classification and Compensation staff provide an array of services and consultation in the areas of organizational and position design; position review and analysis; consultation on departmental pay philosophies and strategies; compensation analysis; and salary adjustment approvals and monitoring. Additionally, this unit serves as an advocate for the university in its interactions as principal liaison to the NC Office of State Human Resources and UNC System Human Resources.

The Division of Human Resources provides comprehensive programs and services to support, attract and retain high-performing faculty and staff at the University, as well as, to develop an interdisciplinary workforce to serve the University in support of its mission effectively.

Requirements :

Bachelor’s degree and two years of progressively responsible professional human resources management experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred :

Prefer an additional 2 years of experience in Human Resources.

Experience in higher education, public government, or related industry is ideal.

Professional certifications such as HRCI , SHRM -CP, SHRM - SCP or other relevant industry certifications are desirable, but not required.

This position may be eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. N.C. A&T employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
