Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Building Maintenance and Grounds Department reports directly to the Associate Vice-Chancellor for Facilities Management and is responsible for providing housekeeping service throughout NCCU campus.
Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of this position is to clean and performs routine housekeeping in the university buildings. Duties include sweeping, mopping, and waxing floor surfaces; cleaning bathrooms replenishing paper supplies and soaps as needed; emptying trash receptacles, moving furniture, high/low dusting, cleaning equipment and snow and ice removal during inclement weather. Position will work special event functions, i. e. commencement, convocation, homecoming, etc.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The successful candidate must possess a working knowledge of cleaning in a high traffic, fast paced academic and office building setting; knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and their purpose in addition to how they are used in housekeeping; ability to perform heavy to medium physical work; ability to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form; ability to work with diverse populations including department faculty, staff, students, university officials, public, and vendors; ability to multi-task in addition to bending and stooping frequently; ability to perform basic computer skills; ability to follow written instruction
Minimum Education/Experience
Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Special certification may be required for some of these positions.
