Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Facilities Services Department reports directly to the Associate Vice-Chancellor for Facilities Management and is responsible for providing housekeeping services throughout NCCU campus.
Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of this position is to clean and performs routine housekeeping in the university buildings. Duties include sweeping, mopping, and waxing floor surfaces; cleaning bathrooms replenishing paper supplies and soaps as needed; emptying trash receptacles, moving furniture, high/low dusting, cleaning equipment and snow and ice removal during inclement weather. Position will work special event functions, i. e. commencement, convocation, homecoming, etc.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The successful candidate must possess a working knowledge of cleaning practices; knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and their purpose in addition to how they are used in housekeeping; ability to perform heavy to medium physical work; knowledge of buffers, carpet extractors, floor scrubbers and wet vac.; ability to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form; ability to multi-task in addition to bending and stooping frequently; ability to follow written instruction; great interpersonal skills. Candidate needs to demonstrate the ability to work independently and work in a team when necessary.
Minimum Education/Experience
Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Special certification may be required for some of these positions.

Duties
Reads work schedules and diagrams of buildings to arrive at the assigned work area on a timely basis.
Remove items and performs basic floor cleaning such as sweeping and dust mopping all VCT floors in classrooms, offices, and hallway in preparation for stripping and waxing VCT floors. Vacuum all carpeted areas in assigned locations before extracting or bonneting carpet. Assure that VCT floors have the prescribed number of coats of wax and that it is applied correctly. Responsible for keeping equipment clean and in assigned storage locations.
