North Carolina Central University (NCCU) invites distinguished applicants for the role of Director, Julius L. Chambers Biomedical/Biotechnology Research Institute (JLC-BBRI). This position reports directly to the Associate Provost and Dean, Research and Sponsored Programs and holds a tenured professorship. The Director will spearhead the institute’s strategic initiatives, leading its growth in innovative biomedical and biobehavioral sciences research. Established in 1999, the JLC-BBRI facilities comprise 40,000 sq. ft. and is equipped to provide a rich environment for cutting-edge research dedicated to the advancement of fundamental knowledge of human diseases, with a special focus on health disparities.
The Director will oversee NCCU’s JLC-BBRI research facilities in Durham and Kannapolis, NC (North Carolina Research Campus-NCRC). The successful candidate will exhibit visionary leadership, chart strategic directions that align with NCCU’s long-term goals to propel the institute to the forefront of biomedical and biobehavioral sciences research. The Director will lead and expand the institute’s research portfolio, to enhance its national stature while ensuring that research activities remain cutting-edge; manage the institute’s budget and provide overall administrative leadership; supervise and mentor faculty to secure external research funding; and forge robust collaborations and partnerships with academic units within NCCU, government agencies, industry leaders, and other academic institutions globally, particularly those in the Research Triangle Park. The Director will also work closely with NCCU’s Institutional Advancement to ensure the institute’s continued growth and impact in the scientific community.
