Description of Work
This position reports to the Maintenance/Construction Supervisor III and provides supervision and/or highly skilled work in the general maintenance, repair and/or construction of buildings, related equipment, and plumbing, heating/cooling, and/or electrical systems. Work is performed in accordance with maintenance schedules across assigned facilities. Special repair assignments are received by work orders from authorized personnel. Job responsibilities include; but are not limited to, the following:
Exercising initiative and judgment in the application of various technical trade skills to a variety of maintenance.
Determining the extent of repair or replacement work to be done to repair and construction problem.
Supervising employees (and offenders) engaged in journeyman level work involving electrical, plumbing, masonry, heating and air, carpentry, cabinet making, roofing, painting, or other trades. However, employees may perform a wide variety of highly technical tasks independently at and above the journeyman level.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.
As of January 1, 2025, the new salary range will be $43,738.00 - $76,542.00.

The salary grade for this position is NC11. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

Richmond Correctional Institution is located in Hoffman, North Carolina and houses up to 833 male offenders in a medium and minimum custody facility.

Knowledge of the methods, practices, and materials used in general maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school or General Educational Development diploma and two (2) years of experience in the performance of the full range of journey level tasks associated with two (2) or more highly complex mechanical or building trades
Or
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualification: May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
