The Administrative Specialist II position provides a wide variety of administrative functions for lawyers and professional level personnel in a government law office setting. Due to the extensive high-level duties carried out in this office, this position has significant internal and external public contact with the Governor's Office, other government agencies, elected officials, the general public, and attorneys. This position provides clerical support to the Chief Deputy General Counsel and assists with support for all other members of the Office of General Counsel.

Specific responsibilities include:
- Independently researching issues to respond to correspondence or to facilitate a reply by the appropriate staff member or assist in problem solving or decision-making.
- Managing staff calendars, including those of department lawyers to ensure that court and other legal deadlines are met.
- Handling regular correspondence, most of which is legal in nature and requires immediate and appropriate action.
- Upholding a professional demeanor when working on highly sensitive issues and with disgruntled individuals or staff members.
- Providing notary services to the Office of the Secretary and the Division's staff.
- Operating a personal computer and standard computer software, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and fax and copier machines to perform administrative tasks.
- Maintaining supplies and service for all staff office equipment.
- Accepting, dating, reviewing, and disseminating all mail and packages on a daily basis.
- Receiving, reviewing, tracking, and maintaining all documentation including court orders, court pleadings, subpoenas, and pending litigation information using tracking software.
- Composing letters, emails, cards, and other correspondence for the Office of General Counsel staff, including correspondence to state and local government officials, state and federal courts, private law firms, outside organizations, and citizens of North Carolina.
- Creating charts, graphs, spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations when needed.
- Interacting in-person and virtually using email, telephone, and video with internal and external staff, the Governor's Office, Department of Public Safety Senior Staff, and elected and appointed representatives.
- Acting with confidentiality and discretion in disseminating information, explaining policies and procedures, and speaking on behalf of the Office of General Counsel.
