This is an INTERNAL POSTING open ONLY for current NC Dept. of Public Safety employees and eligible NC Dept. of Public Safety RIF candidates. Temporary employees are eligible to apply.

The position is assigned to District 15 Alamance County with the duty station being in Graham, NC.

Job duties for this position require driving a state vehicle. A valid driver’s license must be obtained by date of hire.

The Juvenile Court Counselor Supervisor position involves the administrative and technical supervision of a staff of Juvenile Court Counselors who provide an array of supportive services, court ordered supervision, and treatment of delinquent and undisciplined juveniles. They are responsible for the quality of services provided by staff, and compliance with established standards and guidelines. Supervisors are required to travel around the district providing direct supervision to staff and may carry a small caseload of very complex cases or supervise special community based/court related programs. Supervisors will meet periodically with Chief Court Counselors to review progress.

Job Duties Include:

  • Assigning cases, coordinating workflow, and providing supervision to Juvenile Court Counselors through review and evaluation of counseling activities.
  • Providing staff orientation, training, and development, resolving problems, ensuring the quality of services and adherence to Department standards and statutory requirements.
  • Providing input to higher-level management on administrative and personnel issues
  • Providing training and presentations on a variety of intervention and prevention topics to juveniles, law enforcement, school personnel, and the public.
  • Responsible for the quality of services provided by staff, and compliance with established standards and guidelines. Employee is reviewed through periodic meetings, formal and informal reviews with the Chief Court Counselor

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time position. The office is open 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Work schedule is flexible to meet the needs of the department, working sometimes more, sometimes less than 8 hours a day, with work sometimes after 5:00 and on weekends. Employees in the position must be accessible to subordinate employees after hours, on weekends, and holidays to meet on-call needs of the district; and to ensure effective supervision/time management of staff working variable work schedules.

To qualify for this position, applicants must demonstrate ALL of the following KSAs:

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration, adolescent development and behavior, dynamics of juvenile delinquency, group norms, family dysfunction, juvenile court program, juvenile laws, regulations, and guidelines which govern the program.
  • Experience with the practical application of a variety of counseling approaches, crisis intervention techniques, and individual and family therapy.
  • Experience with evaluating complaints against juveniles and reviewing plans of supervision.
  • Experience consulting effectively with other professionals involved in the intervention process.
  • Experience planning, assigning, and supervising the work of professional subordinate employees, and interpreting a wide range of laws and regulations related to juvenile services.
  • Experience developing and maintaining relationships with parents and community agencies.

Master’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in counseling or working with the juvenile/family client population and/or related human service case management experience;

or

Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of experience in counseling or working with the juvenile/family client population and/or related human service case management experience.
