In this position you will use various electrical and electronic test equipment to troubleshoot malfunctioning traffic control equipment. If the malfunction is the result of a hardware failure, this position must remove and replace the defective electronic component and reprogram any associated firmware. In this position, you will perform any necessary upgrades and tests repaired equipment to verify proper operation. This position may evaluate traffic control equipment for compliance with specifications or to evaluate functional capabilities for suitability for use on the Highway System. This position may determine test equipment needs and priorities. This position may design and implement modifications to traffic control equipment to extend its functions. This position modifies traffic control cabinets according to designs produced by others to add essential safety related features, such as railroad preemption.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:
- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of electrical and electronics engineering, operating characteristics of standard electrical and communications equipment, electronic components, test equipment, and practices used in the field of electrical engineering.
- Demonstrated knowledge of electronics theory, electrical systems, communication systems, and how they work together to form an integrated system.
- Demonstrated ability to read and analyze schematic diagrams and maintenance manuals to troubleshoot and repair complex electronic equipment down to component level.
- Demonstrated ability to remove and replace soldered through-hole, surface mounted, and ball grid array electronic components.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office

Selected applicant must be able to legally operate a state vehicle for frequent travel statewide with occasional overnight travel.
Selected applicant must be able to traverse rough terrain on roadside environments.
Selected applicant must possess working knowledge of Linux.

Associate's degree in electronics from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive experience in the repair and maintenance of complex electronic systems including some responsibility for the design of electronic apparatus; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission
