Description of Work
SALARY GRADE: Grade 16
District Court 7, serving Bertie, Halifax, Hertford, and Northampton counties, seeks a qualified individual to provide administrative and case management duties for the District Court Judges.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Compose and prepare a variety of materials including correspondence, reports, and legal documents.
- Track status of cases, prepare and distribute periodic reports in cases, and answer questions regarding the status of cases.
- May schedule and resolve scheduling conflicts and also prepare court calendars.
- Screen callers and visitors, answer inquires, secure and give information.
- Screen and route mail according to contents of communication including email.
- Copy, file, and retrieve materials and perform periodic follow up.
- Order and distribute office supplies and equipment.
- Prepare continuing education reports and travel reimbursement requests.
- May serve on committees and attend meetings as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned by the Court Manager or Chief District Court Judge.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Knowledge of: court system and legal office practices and procedures.
Skills in: case management; organization; entering data quickly and with accuracy; and Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to: explain office and court procedures, and regulations to the public; analyze and interpret facts or program information to make necessary decisions with accuracy; work independently in administering or coordinating special court programs; accurately spell and apply proper grammar; work well with others; speak and understand a language other than English; and organize and complete work by specific deadlines.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in court administration, criminal justice, public administration, business, or a related field, and one year of experience in the court system to acquire the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work described; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
