Title: Seasonal Outreach Worker and Clinical Assistant
Job Summary:
The Seasonal Outreach Worker and Clinical Assistant acts under the direction and supervision of the NC Farmworkers’ Project’s Outreach Coordinator and Clinic Coordinators. Clinical Support responsibilities will include providing support with scheduling medical appointments, processing referrals to specialists, and follow-up communications with migrant and seasonal farmworkers and their families in Harnett, Sampson, Johnston, Cumberland, Duplin, Wake, and Wayne counties. Outreach responsibilities will include assisting with completing health assessments and health education during team outreach to farmworker camps and data entry to document outreach visits. Tasks that support evening clinics for farmworkers will include: registration, providing transportation and interpretation for medical appointments, medication delivery to farmworker camps, and other tasks as assigned. This position will require work outside, and will require in-person work with appropriate COVID-19 protective equipment available.
This position offers schedule flexibility, with daytime, evening, or a combination of the two hours available Monday through Friday. Duties and work schedules will be determined based on the availability of each employee and on the needs of the organization during those times. Occasional weekend work may be available. This is a part-time (20 - 28 hours/week), temporary position, paying $17.00/hour that does not include benefits. Work will be available between April and November 2025.
Eligible candidates will be bilingual in Spanish and English and have:
1) a valid NC driver's license,
2) car insurance, and
3) reliable transportation.
Employees who are 25 years or older will have access to organization vehicles and will be expected to receive approval to use their personal vehicle. Employees who are 24 or younger will be reimbursed for mileage traveled in their personal vehicle. Ideally, work will begin in early May 2025.

Job Responsibilities
- Schedule medical appointments, creates list of patients for mobile and evening clinics.
- Prepare materials and equipment for clinics.
- Support clinical team in completing and processing applications for various medical payment programs.
- Document all farmworker encounters on appropriate forms and in program database.
- Protect security of personal health information.
- Interpret for medical providers and patients during appointments.
- Provide transportation to and from medical appointments.
- Deliver medications to farmworkers’ homes.
- Complete health assessments with farmworkers to ascertain needed services.
- Provide support with other tasks as requested by Clinic and Outreach Coordinators.
- Disseminate information to farmworkers regarding clinic services and state and local public services.
- Provide tailored health education and some direct services (i.e. resource distribution)
Desirable knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and cordial working relationships with other employees and clients involving frequent and sometimes difficult negotiation and interaction
- Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and written, in English and Spanish.
- Ability to communicate with farmworkers with tact and to demonstrate cultural sensitivity in order to obtain necessary information to make appropriate referrals and follow-up.
- Ability to clearly interpret information exchanged between a medical provider and patient. Basic training in strategies for high quality interpretation will be provided by NCFWP.
- Ability to interview farmworkers with tact and to demonstrate cultural sensitivity in order to obtain necessary information to make appropriate referrals and follow-up.
- Experience with clinical support, health education and/or adult education desirable, but not required.
Qualifications
Education: Minimum requirement is a high school diploma. In addition, this position requires computer proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Gmail, cloud based shared drives and forms.
Current/valid License: Driver's License and proof of insurance
Experience: Public health outreach or related experience serving farmworkers or other underserved communities desired.
Language: Bilingual English/Spanish required
Working Conditions:
Work hours will be varied, including daytime and evenings. The employee is required to respect client confidentiality and proprietary information while working with client data. Follow-through on projects from start to finish is essential; as well as the ability to recognize challenges and problem-solve. This position must manage time appropriately to meet deadlines and maintain flexibility with changing needs, deadlines and processes. Office is a casual work environment; however, all attire, attitude and actions must be business acceptable.
Physical Demands:
The employee must be able to lift up to 25-pounds. In addition, the position requires standing, sitting, and walking, so the employee must be able to perform all of these activities for various lengths of time. Community outreach is typically done outside, so must be able to withstand all outside climate variables (e.g. heat, farmland, insects etc.).
