The third floor Investigate Lab at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences is seeking individuals who are passionate about science to join our team! We are hiring three temporary staff positions (Education Specialists) which require a love for science communication and the ability to interact enthusiastically with the public of all ages.
Education Specialists assist with the operations of the Investigate lab, a hands-on education lab with dissecting microscopes and various science experiments. The Investigate Lab hosts more than 35,000 people each year as part of their visit to the NC Museum of Natural Sciences. Summers are the most active time of year in the museum, with increased visitation and a greater opportunity to communicate ones’ knowledge of science!
Work Schedule: Position will work up to 4 days per week including weekends (for a maximum of 25 hours). Core hours are 10:00am-4:30pm.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Provide professional oversight in the Investigate Lab on weekends and insure smooth functioning of the Lab
· Interact with visitors and help them use and understand the lab activities and equipment
· Work collaboratively with volunteers
· Assist with maintenance of the lab
· Complete any other duties assigned by the Lab Staff

· Able to communicate effectively with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds.

· Self-directed and willing to take initiative.
· Knowledgeable about and uphold Lab rules and procedures.
Other:
Must have weekend availability and attend trainings.
