Description of Work
This position is located at Rockingham Youth Development Center in Reidsville (Rockingham County), NC.
Employees' time is spent supporting instruction in core subject areas, making instructional materials, assisting the teachers in planning and coordinating classroom activities. Responsibilities also include assisting the teacher in developing lesson plans and recording notes on behavior as well as developmental progress. The candidate will also work with students on individualized programs and assist in the collection and recording of data for the students. This position will work collaboratively with other disciplines to provide services to students and provide feedback through progress notes or short narratives which contain standardized information.
Positions in this class perform paraprofessional instructional activities in a variety of settings offering opportunities for learning and that serve children and youth with one or more disabilities. Positions assist the teacher by monitoring individual student achievements, monitoring the classroom, gradating, providing individual or small group instructions, collecting and recording data, and charting behavior. The preponderance of time is utilized in instruction or training in specific subject areas or skill sets for an individual or a small group following established lesson plans and/or identified goals. Employees may modify specific steps to provide a better learning experience. Employees have input into goal development, monitor behavior and goal attainment, and provide feedback verbally or through written progress notes. Employees may also assist teachers in planning and coordinating classroom activities. In settings where research projects are underway, some positions may observe and record a variety of educational, social, and physical data .

To qualify for this position, applicants must demonstrate ALL of the following KSAs:
- Experience working with students.
- Experience with classroom management techniques.
- Experience in fostering a positive learning environment and effectively manage small group activities.
- Experience in utilizing classroom and/or office equipment, while providing assistance to students with computer-based learning programs commonly employed in the classroom.
Management Preference: These skills are not required but managers may choose to interview/select applicants who demonstrate Management Preferences.
- Experience working with students with learning disabilities.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of experience working with students in an educational environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
