HIRING SALARY RANGE: $37,594 - $37,970

Description of Duties:

This is to fill the 2nd shift (10:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.) Team Leader - Housekeeper position. Position reports to the Housekeeping Supervisor. Duties include, but not limited to, cleaning and care of offices and public areas, perform basic cleaning such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting, disinfecting, sanitizing, vacuuming, stripping and waxing floors, etc., to keep working areas in a clean and orderly condition. Empty trash receptacles and recycle bins. Fill dispensers such as tissue and soap with the proper product and amount. Schedule work to minimize impact to the campus community. Perform physically strenuous activities such as moving furniture and operating buffers, carpet machines, and other cleaning equipment, listen and respond to customer needs promptly and respectfully, and other duties as requested by the supervisor.

Report all maintenance items to the Housekeeping Supervisor, Maintain an inventory of cleaning materials, supplies and equipment to ensure appropriate levels needed to perform work. Work is routine and repetitive in nature and may require strenuous physical exertion.

Must be able to climb stairs and lift up to 50lbs. Employees may be required to work some overtime and weekends due to special school events and programs. Normal working hours are Sunday – Thursday 10:00 PM – 7:00 AM. This position is eligible for shift premium, as appropriate.

Team Leader Duties

- Coordinate the work of one Housekeeper - Contributing on night shift within designated buildings on campus.

  • Provide direction to the night shift housekeeper, as needed.
  • Ensure daily work and projects are completed in a timely manner.
  • Assess non-routine matters and send to higher levels of management when appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Knowledge –Positions at this Journey level should be able to clean the interior and exterior of buildings using the appropriate cleaning solutions. Operates standard commercial laundry machines or services equipment to keep machines functioning properly and efficiently.

Interpersonal Skills - Develops and maintains effective working relationships with others in order to encourage and support communication and teamwork.

Communication - Listens to coworkers' questions or self identifies questions that need answering and selects an appropriate person or written source to consult to get a workable answer that can allow for progress in accomplishing the job.

Safety and Health Compliance - Services, and/or replaces cleaning and maintenance equipment and machinery.

Customer Service -Recognizes potential problems in service, and addresses and resolves promptly and respectfully.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred: Graduation from High School or possession of GED, and one year of institutional or commercial cleaning experience particularly in a university or medical setting.

Computer skills are required for corresponding through emails and reporting time worked.

This is a mandatory position and is required to report to work in adverse weather conditions, during emergency closings and public health emergencies.

Vacation and Personal Leave: SHRA employees earn from 14 days to 26 days per year based on years of state service. Leave accruals for part-time and less than 12 month employees are pro-rated. Leave is earned monthly.

Sick Leave: 12 days per year. Leave accruals for part-time and less than 12 month employees are pro-rated.

Additional Leave: Family Medical Leave (FMLA), Paid Parental Leave (PPL), Civil Leave, Personal Observance Day, Extended Illness, Short/Long Term Disability, Family Illness Leave, Military Leave, Community Service Leave, Voluntary Shared Leave and Leave Without Pay.

Health Insurance: Employee only coverage under the State Health Plan (PPO) is provided to employees that work 30 or more hours a week. The cost is determined by the type of coverage elected by the employee. Dependent coverage is available by payroll deduction.

Retirement: Required participation for all employees working 3/4 time or more. Option (1) Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS) requires 6% of gross salary. Employees are vested for retirement after 5 years. Option (2) The Optional Retirement Program (ORP) requires 6% of gross salary. Employees in ORP are vested after 5 years of participating in ORP. As a participant in either retirement program, you are automatically covered for short-term disability (eligible after 1 year of service/no cost), long term disability (eligible after 5 years of service/no cost). Death benefit of minimum $25,000/maximum $50,000 based on previous 12 month salary (eligible after 1 year of service/no cost).

Supplemental Retirement Plans: Supplemental retirement plans provide an additional opportunity to help you reach your retirement goals. Supplemental Plan offerings such as a 401(k), 403(b), or 457(b) on a Roth (after-tax) or pre-tax contributions.

Tuition Waiver: Three courses per academic year tuition free (at any of UNC 17 campuses that offer courses) for permanent full-time employees.

State Employees Credit Union: Membership welcomed. Contact the SECU Credit Union for information.

Community Service: 24 hours leave credited each calendar year (prorated for part-time) unless you choose the Mentoring/ tutoring option – 1 hour each week up to a max of 36 hours that schools are in session as documented by the elected board of the local education agency or the governing authority of any non-public school.

Facilities: Library & Gymnasium - other athletic facilities available at no cost to employees. Cafeteria on site.
