Description of Duties:
One Digital Photography class per semester:
- Fall Semester: classes run August 13-December 13, with planning and prep days before and after the term
- Spring Semester: classes run February 3-May 20, with planning and prep days before and after the term
Regular Class Meetings:
- Two 100-minute evening classes/week, Tuesdays/Thursdays, 6:15-7:55 PM

Grading and assessment
Plan and prepare a curriculum for a digital photography course that welcomes all levels of experience.
Inculcate in students a respect for the art and craft of photography and for the equipment, tools, and space in the photography studio.
Supervise and maintain safety in the classroom space
Determine materials and supplies needed for the class. Work with Fine Arts Chair and Academic Programs Administrative Associate to order materials.
Prepare and distribute to the following to the students:
- Course Expectations/Procedures document (aligned with Humanities departmental guidelines)
- Academic Honesty Expectations/Statement (written carefully for camera and materials check-out and use)
- Syllabus (aligned with Humanities departmental guidelines)
- Prepare and distribute other relevant course documents and assignments:
- Handouts, minor and major assignment sheets, worksheets, homework, etc.
Take attendance at each class meeting and record attendance and tardies in Blackbaud
Give regular and meaningful feedback to the students on their work.
Evaluate students’ work and submit the following:
- Grades for individual assignments (on a rolling basis)
- Progress reports (2 times each semester)
- Final course grades (and comments as needed) for all students enrolled in the course
Maintain an exhibition space in the hallway outside the art studio, with rotating students’ work.
Responsible for equipment check-out and inventory (14 Digital Camera Kits)
As appropriate, initiate collaborations, field experiences, guest speakers with guidance of colleagues
Attend Fine Arts faculty and departmental meetings as you are able
Review and evaluate the condition of our camera kits, printers, supplies, and equipment and make recommendations for any needed repairs, purchases, and improvements.
Participate in Family Day activities (one Saturday in September)
Provide information or updates to students’ advisors and/or NCSSM counselors as needed or requested
Sign and submit biweekly timesheets by deadlines
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong skills with digital camera technology and related software. Strong pedagogical skills and working knowledge of content delivery and classroom management. Interest in working closely with existing art faculty.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Master’s degree preferred in Photography, Photography Education, Art, Art Education, or a relevant area preferred. Teaching experience, preferably with advanced high school students.
