Job Summary
Perform day-to-day activities of the housekeeping department in accordance with current Federal, State, and local standards and regulations that govern the facility. Follow instructions set forth by the housekeeping supervisor to assure that our facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner.
Essential Duties
- Must be able to read, write and speak the English language.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions, and to accept constructive criticism.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
- Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age.
- Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc. and maintain the appearance of housekeeping areas in a safe, clean, and comfortable manner.
- Must be willing to work harmoniously with other personnel, as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level they are currently functioning at.
- Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing housekeeping practices.
- Must be able to follow written and oral instructions concerning the mixture of cleaning compounds, liquids, procedures, etc.
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must possess sight and hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
- Must able to relate to, and work with: ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and (at times) hostile people within the facility.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull and move equipment, supplies, etc., throughout the work day.
- Is willing to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
- Works in all areas of the facility.
- Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours.
- Is subject to frequent interruptions and may need to reschedule cleaning activities.
- Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
- Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents.
- May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc.
- Required to work weekends and holidays.
- May be required to work other shifts.
- Is subject to falls, odors, etc., throughout the work day, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, etc.
- Job duties, tasks, work hours and work requirements may be subjected to change at any time.
- Follow all housekeeping procedures set forth by the housekeeping director
- Communicate with housekeeping personnel and other department personnel.
- Attends and participates in continuing educational programs, in-services, on the job training programs, etc. when offered or scheduled by supervisor.
- Must interact with residents, family, and co-workers on a professional level.
- Other duties may be assigned to you by the housekeeping director or facility management.
Additional Policies and Procedures
- Follow established safety procedures when performing housekeeping duties.
- All chemical spray bottles are to be properly labeled at all times. Do not use any unlabeled bottles.
- Housekeeping carts are to be kept neat and clean at all times. All chemicals are to be stored inside cart. Never leave spray bottles on top of cart or unattended.
- Housekeeping carts are to be put away when you go on breaks and to lunch.
- Housekeeping carts are to be cleaned, supplies restocked, and put away properly at the end of every work shift.
- Each housekeeping cart is supplied with information regarding placement of fire extinguishers, fire alarm pulls, and locations of red emergency outlets used in the event of a power failure.
- All housekeeping supplies will be maintained and stocked by housekeeping supervisor.
- Report all hazardous conditions to maintenance immediately.
- 9. Report burned out light bulbs, exit lights, overhead lights, and call lights promptly to maintenance through the Communication Book in the nurses station.
- 10. Report all accidents/incidents immediately to housekeeping supervisor or charge nurse.
- 11. Check with charge nurse or nursing staff before entering any room displaying an isolation notice. STRICTLY follow all isolation procedures posted, at all times.
- 12. Turn in all found items to the director of nursing, charge nurse, or social services.
- 13. Respect residents rights and property.
- 14. Maintain at all times a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for residents, family members, and staff.
- Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Experience: One year of experience in long term care setting is preferred but not required.
- Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Ability to read, write, speak and understand English. Meets all health requirements, as required by law. Ability to relate positively, effectively, and appropriately with residents, families, community members, volunteers and other center staff. Demonstrates basic computer knowledge (Microsoft Office) and ability with an aptitude to learn company applications.
