The Chemical Hygiene Assistant is responsible for the testing of laboratory safety shower and eyewash stations within the Wentz Science Center. Test results will be summarized in monthly reports which are forwarded to the college Chemical Hygiene Officer. The Chemical Hygiene Assistant will work with the Chemistry Laboratory Manager for work scheduling and access to various locations of each safety shower and eyewash station.
Additional duties may include the washing and/or restocking of glassware and lab equipment.
Do the job duties for this position include any driving requirements? No Job Qualifications
The successful applicant will have completed the lecture and laboratory coursework of Chemistry 121 and 122 with a letter grade of "C" or higher. The applicant is expected to have a basic knowledge of chemistry and chemistry laboratories (and similar laboratories) and the general equipment used within them, including safety equipment (safety showers, eyewash stations, fume hoods) and typical basic laboratory glassware. The applicant is expected to have a working knowledge of the safety practices utilized within a chemistry or similar laboratory. The successful Chemical Hygiene Assistant is self-motivated and works well in a group setting but also works well independently and without direct supervision. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential.
The applicant must be enrolled as a student at North Central College.
