Job Summary Under general direction, implements programs developed by the Physical Therapist in compliance with local, state & federal regulations, Individual Education Plan (IEP), Evaluation Team Reports (ETR), and/or 504 plans. Assists with the improvement of gross motor activities, balance skills, strengthening, bilateral coordination skills and functional mobility needed for the student to fully engage in educational activities.
Primary Duties
· Collects data on students' physical abilities including navigation of school building, functional sitting/positioning in the classroom, safe accessibility of & participation in school activities, personal care activities, etc. Provides assessment results to Physical Therapist for further evaluation
· Participates in IEP, ETR, and/or 504 meetings and provides input into developing measurable, educationally relevant, and minimally restrictive IEP goals and objectives for assigned students
· Consults with Physical Therapist and other members of the rehabilitation team to select the most effective therapy program
· Assists with providing direct Physical therapy treatment services to ESC students in alignment with treatment goals and objectives as specified by the Physical Therapist. Provides school and/or home based therapy services to allow students to access the general education curriculum
· Consults with instructional staff, parents/guardians, care givers, and students to implement the therapy services and discuss student management & equipment/technology usage. Assists with adaptation and/or modifications of environments to facilitate access and participation in educational programs
· Maintains student files with updated IEPs, forms, progress notes, and other related information according to department policy. Follows department guidelines for file management & document retention
· Completes and submits required documentation & forms in a timely fashion in alignment with department and/or legislative requirements
· Consults with Physical Therapist, students, families, and other relevant care providers regarding student progress
· Develops and distributes billing documents (e.g., invoices, etc.) to participant schools as necessary
· Participates in professional development activities as necessary and/or required to maintain high quality performance in alignment with legislative and/or professional best practices
· Notifies Physical Therapist of procedural or other issues as required per department and/or legislative policy
· Monitors the use of orthopedic braces, prosthesis and other supportive devices and other adaptive equipment for the purpose of providing appropriate care to students, maximizing their academic success and/or supporting the students’ IEP
· Maintains current knowledge of regulatory requirements and ESC policies/procedures. Communicates with ESC stakeholders on a regular basis regarding new legislation/updates. Implements changes to methods and processes as directed
· Attends meetings as requested or required
· Enters data for assigned students into databases according to department requirements. Extracts information from databases and develops reports for delivery to internal & external stakeholders. Gathers and organizes documents to satisfy public records requests and other reporting obligations
· Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance
· Promotes a favorable image of the ESC. Encourages community partnerships that enhance ESC programs and services
· Upholds governing board policies and follows administrative procedures
· Reports suspected child abuse and/or neglect to civil authorities as required by law
