What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Outreach Educator position at North Central Sight Services?
SUMMARY: Create public awareness throughout the community on vision loss, preventative measures, and services that can assist those with vision loss.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend designated events to educate the public on prevention and blindness services.
- Provide content for marketing/public relations publications and assist with distribution.
- Provide reports following PAB guidelines and including all information in CRM.
- Organize and provide vision screenings to various age groups.
- Create and provide age-appropriate eye health and vison loss prevention educational programs.
- Coordinate and oversee the Functional Vision Clinic
- Create and execute interactive trainings to businesses, civic groups, schools, or interested parties to promote understanding of vision loss and blindness.
- Must stay up to date on current statistics and recommendations for basic eye health and safety.
- Communicate with visually impaired coworkers and clients to obtain relevant information for programs.
- Have basic knowledge about current low vision resources, adaptive aids, and devices.
- Coordinate with Programs and Services Director for assistance with programming
- Some evening/weekend hours required.
- Job duties carried out onsite at NCSS facility or approved NCSS remote office location.
- The ability to work in a state of alertness and safe manner
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Programs & Services.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent communication, written and verbal, and organizational skills.
- Clean driving record with current PA State Driver’s license, PA State Criminal History, PA Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Clearances, and Mandated Reporter Training.
- Able to promote agency programs, services, and assist in and funding development through community outreach initiatives.
- Task and results oriented with the ability to work effectively with little or no supervision.
- Detailed knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suite, and website development.
- Able to work well with both adults and children, cultivating new opportunities with referral sources, community providers and groups.
- Possesses a strong understanding of basic eye health, hygiene, and safety.
- Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Associate degree with a major in human services, public relations, or related field.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in public relations or related field.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
· Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
· Ability to write simple correspondence and effectively communicate in both verbal and written formats.
· Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out written or oral instructions.
· Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
· Personal computer operation including a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
· Demonstrated ability to actively participate and perform in a team-oriented environment.
