Job Summary
This position is a part of the Student Affairs team and is responsible for the daily operations of three residence halls with an occupancy of 150 residents, establishing and maintaining a positive living and learning environment for students, and providing a positive presence on campus through this 12-month, live-in position. The Manager facilitates housing assignments and the move in process, provides clear communication for students, monitors and addresses maintenance, cleaning, and ITS requests, leads the Resident Assistants, facilitates Residence Life programming, enforces the Student Code of Conduct and Residence Life policies, responds to emergency situations and conduct violations, and participates in the on-call rotation. The Manager directly supervises six Resident Assistants and additional work-study students and part-time employees.
This role involves frequent interactions with students, parents, guests, and colleagues. The goal of this position is to support and enhance the student experience through a quality living environment on campus. This position requires adaptability, professionalism, and a commitment to creating and maintaining a positive living and learning experience for students.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • NCTC Student Affairs Team Member Provide a positive experience for students, parents, guests, and colleagues
  • Facilitate daily operations for three residence halls
  • Establish and maintain a positive living and learning environment for students
  • Provide a positive presence on campus through living on campus full-time (12-month position)
  • Participate in the on-call rotation
  • Facilitate housing assignments: Coordinate, implement and track housing assignments (including assigning rooms and assigning roommates). Facilitate a waitlist for students who were not initially assigned their preferred rooms and/or housing locations
  • Facilitate the process for students moving in to the residence halls
  • Ensure rooms are ready for students/guests
  • Conduct room inventories in December and May
  • Communicate needs to Maintenance and ITS
  • Coordinate the check-in/check-out process
  • Provide clear communication (written, electronic, and verbal) for students regarding:
  • 1) housing assignments, 2) move in dates and procedures, 3) residence life and college policies, 4) move out dates and procedures, 5) hall meetings, 6) events, 7) behavior concerns, 8) safety concerns, and 9) college and community resources
  • Monitor and address maintenance, cleaning, and furniture/equipment needs of the residence halls
  • Conduct weekly walkthroughs of the common spaces/exteriors of the residence halls
  • Submit maintenance requests/work orders
  • Submit ITS requests/work orders
  • Monitor completion of requests/work orders
  • Lead and supervise the Resident Assistants Recruit, select, train, schedule, and evaluate the Resident Assistants, work study employees, and front desk attendants
  • Coordinate professional development, training, and guidance for the RAs
  • Conduct weekly RA Team meetings to 1) plan upcoming residence life events or activities, 2) address schedule conflicts, procedures, safety concerns, 3) review work orders, and 4) discuss the needs of the residents and residence halls.
  • Conduct bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with each RA to 1) check on the status of the hall/wing, 2) address questions and/or concerns, 3) review processes/procedures, and 4) provide encouragement

  • Assist RAs with bi-weekly health & safety room checks
  • Assist in planning and facilitating RA Training prior to each semester
  • Schedule and facilitate Residence Life Programming that helps foster an engaged and supported residential community
  • Schedule and facilitate Mandatory Residence Life Meetings, Hall Meetings, and/or Wing Meetings
  • Lead the RAs in identifying programs/activities to host, Guide the RAs in creating event budgets and supplies list, Guide the RAs in marketing the events, Purchase supplies, Attend events, Track attendance at events, Provide reports on events
  • Enforce Student Code of Conduct and Residence Life policies to establish and maintain a safe and respectful living environment, Address student conduct issues and issue disciplinary sanctions for minor residence hall violations, Report student conduct violations, Attend student conduct meetings, Facilitate room searches per policies, Mediate interpersonal and inter-group conflicts
  • Enforce safety and security measures and visitor and building access control, Support emergency drills and exercises in cooperation with the NCTC Department of Public Safety
  • Respond to incident reports and emergency situations
  • Learn and use technology platforms, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Cares Reports, Jenzabar, MyNCTC and other departmental applications
  • Lead and/or serve on college committees, Assist with special projects as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change based on the department and the institution.




Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree required.

Required Skills & Abilities
  • Residence Hall Policies:Familiarity with policies and regulations regarding residence hall living, safety, conduct, and procedures.
  • Crisis Management: Knowledge of emergency protocols and procedures, as well as the ability to handle crisis situations effectively.
  • Conflict Resolution: Techniques for de-escalating conflicts, mediating disputes, and promoting a harmonious living environment.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication strategies for conveying information, providing updates, and addressing concerns with both residents, staff and parents.
  • Leadership: Ability to lead and motivate a team of resident assistants (RAs) and/or staff members. Provide guidance and support.
  • Problem-Solving: Skills in identifying issues and finding creative solutions to challenges that arise in a residential environment.
  • Event Planning: Skills in organizing and executing engaging programs and events that enhance the student experience.
  • Approachability: Ability to create an atmosphere where residents feel comfortable approaching you with questions, concerns, or feedback.
  • Positive Role Model: Modeling the behavior and values expected of residents, setting a positive example.
  • Time Management: Effective allocation of time and resources to manage various responsibilities, including administrative tasks, programming, and interactions.

Preferred Skills & Abilities

Required Experience
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in Residence Life, Campus Housing, or Student Life in higher education is required.


Preferred Experience
  • A total of 5 years is preferred, which may include a combination of supervisory or leadership roles working with students in higher education settings (e.g., residence life, student affairs, student development).
