North Central Utility (NCU) is looking for a self-motivated and results driven Assistant Service Operations Manager, to represent NCU in the semi-trailer service industry.

North Central Utility is one of the largest semi-trailer dealerships in the nation and the largest in the North Central region with 10 locations throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota and North Dakota. We offer reefer, dry van and flatbed trailers from Utility Trailer Manufacturing at all locations and vocational trailers from MAC Trailers in Wisconsin - we sell new and used semi-trailers. With Moore Space, we offer temporary storage container solutions as well. Our parts department has an extensive inventory in Heavy-Duty Truck / Tractor and Trailer parts. Our broad product line and geographic coverage ensures we are a “One Stop Shop” for truck and semi-trailer parts. Our service department offers everything from routine maintenance, certified DOT inspections to precision laser alignment, as well as complete wreck repair for trailers of all makes and models. No job is too big or too small for our skilled service technicians.

This position is a safety sensitive position, requiring pre-employment and post-accident drug testing.

  • Job Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Department Processes and Procedures Development
  • Lead development of Service Department processes and procedures

    Create SOP’s, Reference Documents, and How To instruction guides

  • Lead development of Trailer & Truck Repair processes and procedures
  • Create SOP’s, Reference Documents, and How To instruction guides (May include training videos)

  • Department Employee Training
  • Develop and Manage Technician training program at all levels

    Includes experienced technicians whether onboarding or existing

  • Includes entry level Training Program (School)
  • Manage on site and online Vendor Training
  • Manage hands-on training with designated mentors in our shops
  • Includes Warranty processes from OEM’s
  • Develop Service Manager training program
  • includes processes for estimating, RO’s, time entry, warranty and invoicing

  • Includes In-person training with all Service Department Managers and office staff
  • Tooling
  • Determine needed tools in the shops based on safe practices and repair procedures

    Negotiate with vendors for the best price and product

  • Work with Service Managers on replacement of tooling and upkeep
  • Perform a yearly inventory counts to ensure no broken or missing tools
  • Safety
  • Maintain safe work practices in the shop

    Manage online and in person safety training

  • Perform yearly shop audits
  • Service Manager Staffing and Travel
  • Cover for Service Managers during PTO, FMLA, or Unoccupied

  • Travel to minimum 1 location weekly
  • Assist Operations Manager as needed
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Service Operations Manager
  • Qualifications :

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Previous Trailer and or Truck mechanical experience required
  • Strong computer skills & Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) proficiency
  • Leadership skills
  • Customer service experience preferred
  • Proficient with technology
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, twist, reach overhead, stoop, squat repetitively and for long periods of time
  • Responsibilities :

  • Manage department & team members
  • Effectively manage executing on projects at the corporate level
  • Accurate and timely completion of paperwork
