JOB TITLE: Emergency Services Clinician
LOCATION: Petoskey, MI 49770
REPORTS TO: Director of Crisis Services
STATUS: Non-Exempt, Non-Union, Part-Time, up to 12 hours/week (Saturdays and Sundays)
HYBRID ELIGIBLE: This is a community-based position.
STARTING WAGE: $45.00 per hour ($540/shift)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Master’s Social Worker, or a Limited Licensed Professional Counselor or Psychologist with appropriate State of Michigan Licensure.
Experience: Minimum of one year supervised clinical and/or emergency services experience required.
Other: Ability to interact with physicians and other healthcare providers in a professional manner. Working knowledge of physical and mental health, chronic health conditions, and behavioral health medications. Lived experiences with behavioral health issues are valued.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The goal of the Emergency Services Team is to ensure the immediate safety and health of individuals being served and to initiate a crisis intervention plan that includes short-term and longer-term treatment recommendations. The Emergency Services Clinician is responsible for providing weekend and/or after-hours crisis intervention, pre-screenings for psychiatric hospitalization, disposition, and recommendations under the direction of the Director of Crisis Services. This part-time position works within a 24/7 crisis intervention team and may be scheduled for up to 12 hours per week, with primary hours being Saturday through Sunday.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provides emergency crisis interventions, pre-screenings for psychiatric hospitalizations in the hospital or jail, with treatment recommendations.
- Provides emergency services primarily during the weekend, working approximately 6 to12 hour shifts, depending on scheduling. May also cover absences if requested by supervisor.
- Collaborates with clients in assessing their needs, creating crisis action plans/safety planning, and obtaining the appropriate level of care.
- Performs risk assessment and mental status examinations and makes recommendations regarding psychiatric hospitalization in collaboration with emergency room personnel, law enforcement, and court.
- Finds appropriate psychiatric placement for persons in need of hospitalization.
- Maintains knowledge of mental health symptomatology, interventions, and treatment strategies. Provides provisional diagnoses.
- Utilizes the consultation services of NCCMH psychiatrists and supervisor.
- Provides consultation to other community agencies and professionals (police, courts, etc.) as needed.
- Maintains strong, positive interagency relations with community resources and services.
- Provides complete and timely documentation for the electronic health record.
- Is well-organized and self-directed with the ability to manage time in an efficient manner.
- Possesses high ethical standards, trustworthiness, and is a person of integrity.
- Maintains appropriate professional image; able to maintain composure and effectiveness under pressure and in changing conditions; able to accept feedback as it relates to job performance and responsibilities.
- Possesses good clinical judgment and problem solving with ability to de-escalate crisis situations effectively.
- Possesses excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Maintains working knowledge of MDHHS Contract Technical Requirements and Medicaid Provider Manual relevant to job duties.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to walk, bend, stand, sit, lift to 50 pounds with or without assistance, stretch/reach, hear, see, hand/finger dexterity and drive a vehicle. Position requires physical ability to complete and maintain certification in CPI techniques which will be a training class provided to the job incumbent. OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be current in Adult CPR and First Aid; provided by NCCMH.
- Complete initial training in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI); provided by NCCMH.
- Have own phone for communication and reliable access to messages.
- Have reliable transportation in carrying out agency duties.
- Possess a valid Michigan’s driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to work within guidelines of the code of conduct, regulatory compliance plan and personnel policies.
- Supports a philosophy of service delivery that is recovery-based, person centered and culturally competent.
- Adhere to applicable policies and procedures as required by the Department of Community Mental Health, the Mental Health Services Board, and other pertinent regulatory agencies.
