Position Statement
The Pharmacy Technician reports to the Pharmacy Director and works closely with the Pharmacists to assure medications are available for our patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fills, stocks and delivers medications to patient care and ancillary areas, including the automated dispensing units such as Omnicell.
- Enters charges and credits for patient medications into the electronic medical record and other pharmacy software.
- Maintains shelf stock, checking for outdates and places orders with vendors for pharmaceuticals.
- Answers the telephone professionally, identifying self and department; directs calls to appropriate personnel.
- Assists with requests at the pickup window for employee prescriptions and makes stat deliveries to patient care and ancillary areas when requested.
- Maintains the narcotic inventory module and conducts weekly narcotic inventory count under the direct supervision of the pharmacist.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic typing and/or computer skills.
- 2-3 years pharmacy technician experience preferred, but not required.
- Certified or willing to obtain certification through an approved Pharmacy Technician certification course.
