Position Statement
The Emergency Department physician provides high quality, timely, and compassionate care to all patients presenting with acute medical conditions. Their role is critical to North Country Hospital as the first point of contact for individuals in need of emergent care. The ED physician reports directly to the Medical Director for the department with administrative reporting to the VP of Patient Care Services.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and stabilize patients who present with minor or critical conditions, administering medications, performing minor procedures, requesting consults as necessary, coordinating admissions for North Country Hospital or transfers to higher-level facilities as needed, and ensuring timely documentation to comprehensive patient records, all while adapting to the unique challenges of a rural healthcare setting.
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with other members of the medical staff and healthcare team to provide emergency services for all patients who present to the emergency department.
- Typical schedule is 12 shifts per month, consisting of approximately 4 shifts 7a-7p, 4 shifts 10a-9p, and up to 4 shifts 7p-7a. Scaled down schedule for months with vacation if desired.
