DEFINITION OF POSITION
The instructional aide’s primary responsibility is to assist students in becoming academically proficient in the California Standards and assists teachers in classroom activities. The instructional aide tutors individual students and works with small groups of students under teacher direction. Perform related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Presents / reviews educational lessons, materials or programs to students in a one-to-one or group setting.
- Assist individual children in need of special assistance.
- Demonstrates caring and respect for all students.
- Assists classroom teacher in monitoring and supervising pupils in and out of the classroom.
- Assist students in preparing materials for instruction by setting up and using computers, audiovisual equipment, and various materials.
- Prepares and/or displays instructional materials accurately, neatly, and in a visually pleasing manner.
- Makes quick, responsible decisions regarding student welfare and safety, including discussing conduct and self-discipline.
- Encourages students to develop and use critical thinking skills.
- Maintain positive attitude and positive school climate.
- Fosters independence of the students through learning and self-help act ivies.
- Assists students in organizing and utilizing reference and resource materials, and in developing individual instructional materials.
- Brings personal and educational needs of students to the classroom teacher’s attention.
- Operates machines, such as photocopier machines, laminator machine, book binder, and computer if appropriate.
- Assist students in assessing student work.
- Administers and scores a variety of tests.
- Supervise with teacher morning recess and /or lunch duty recess.
- Decorate bulletin boards.
- Assists students in intervention programs.
- Helps maintain children’s personal hygiene.
- Performing whatever tasks the teacher requires.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIOINS
Must have a minimum of a high School diploma or general education degree (GED).Must possess Instructional Aide Proficiency Exam Certificate (Paraprofessionals must possess the Shasta County Professional Proficiency Exam). Paraprofessionals must have one of the following: 1.) Obtained an associate’s or higher degree from an institution of higher education; or 2.) Successfully completed 48 units at an institution of higher education; or 3.) Passed the Shasta County Office of Education Paraprofessional Exam.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students and possibly staff.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in writing, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems in routine situations and to work independently.
Ability to interact with staff, students, parents, and others in an open, friendly, businesslike manner.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee is exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is reflective of active and noisy children.

Pay: $16.50 - $22.58 per year
