NDDOT Starting Salary: Transportation Engineer III: $7,243 / month
Transportation Engineer II: $5,999 / month
Transportation Engineer I*: $5,403 / month
*Applicants who anticipate receiving their degree by May of 2025 are eligible to apply; the start date is flexible.
Summary of Work
At the North Dakota Department of Transportation, we owe our success to our Team and processes. As a Transportation Engineer in the Traffic Safety Section of our Design Division, you will provide engineering design, review, and research related traffic safety items. The ideal person for this position will be a problem solver with excellent communication skills and attention to detail and works well in a team environment. Primary duties associated with this position are as follows:
Develop and maintain expertise in lighting and signal design.
Lighting and Signal design.
Write engineering/environmental reports and create project plans.
Assist in designing guardrail, signing, pavement marking, and work zone traffic control.
Assist in reviewing consultant prepared lighting, signal, and ITS design.
Provide technical assistance to consultants and designers.
Minimum Qualifications
Transportation Engineer III:
Bachelor’s degree in civil, transportation, or construction engineering
Four years of professional-level engineering work experience
Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
Requires a class D driver’s license for travel to meetings and project locations.
Transportation Engineer II:
Bachelor’s degree in civil, transportation, or construction engineering
A Bachelor’s degree in another engineering field applicable to lighting and signal design may also be considered.
Two years of professional-level engineering work experience
Eligibility to write the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
Requires a class D driver’s license for travel to meetings and project locations.
Transportation Engineer I:
Bachelor’s degree in civil, transportation, or construction engineering
Eligibility to write the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
Requires a class D driver’s license for travel to meetings and project locations.
