What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chemistry Summer Positions position at North Dakota State Government?
The North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Chemistry has summer employment opportunities available for students or recent graduates interested in gaining experience in environmental sciences. Summer employment with the Department of Environmental Quality allows individuals to gain and apply degree-related knowledge and work experience.
Summary of Work
The Chemistry Laboratory provides analytical chemistry data for environmental protection, public health, agricultural and petroleum regulatory programs in the state. This position will assist with the preparation of water, soil/sediment, vegetation, and fish tissue samples using techniques such as liquid/liquid extractions, liquid/solid extractions, solid phase extractions and automated techniques. This position may assist in preparation of animal feed and fertilizer samples using mechanical means. This position may assist in preparation of sampling kits for a variety of department projects. Individuals will be introduced to modern analytical instrumental techniques such as atomic spectroscopy, colorimetry, and gas, liquid, and ion chromatography.
Minimum Qualifications
Individuals must be enrolled in a college or university or have a bachelor’s degree and possess a desire for a career in chemistry or in the environmental sciences with coursework in chemistry, biology, biochemistry or other related physical or natural science.
These positions will be based in Bismarck and all require computer and data management capabilities.
