The Department of Plant Sciences at North Dakota State University is seeking an Ag. Research Technician to assist the soybean plant breeder in the development of improved varieties for North Dakota and surrounding areas. This would include assisting in organizing and conducting scientific research in soybeans. Assist in planning experiments. Included would be the selection of appropriate procedures or methods to accomplish the tasks. Duties performed under general guidance and will require coordination with the members of other departments and their project leaders. Assist head technician with electronic data collection and entry into Agrobase system. Assist research technicians with equipment repair and weed science projects.
Position will be based on the NDSU main campus.
Advertised Salary : $40,000 / year
Minimum Qualifications :
- Associate's degree OR a 2-year degree in agricultural related field OR equivalent related experience.
- Computer skills (word processing and data analysis).
- Experience in mechanized agriculture and safe operation of motorized farm equipment, farm background, farm experience.
- Understanding of plot research techniques. Knowledge / ability to maintain and repair farm equipment.
- Ability to drive a pick-up truck with a gooseneck trailer. Ability to load a trailer with a tractor or combine.
- Effective English-oral and written communication skills are required.
- Ability to work independently and effectively with coworkers, producer groups, industry personnel and the public.
- Physically able to perform field research, kneeling, lifting 50 lb. bags.
- Training and supervision of part-time labor.
- ND driver's license and ability to obtain a Certified Pesticide Applicator License.

Physical Demands :
Operate and transport small to large-sized tractors, combines, harvesters, and sprayers. Operate NDSU fleet trucks. Physically able to perform field research, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs bags. Application of hazardous herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides and is responsible for correct rates, timely applications.
