Transform people’s lives. NDSU Extension empowers North Dakotans to improve their lives and communities through science-based education. Lead dynamic parent education programs in southwest North Dakota, which includes the geographic territory of Adams, Billings, Bowman, Dunn, Golden Valley, Hettinger, Slope, and Stark Counties. This full-time position is based in the West Dakota Parent and Family Resource Center located in Dickinson, North Dakota.

  • Develop, plan, deliver, facilitate, and evaluate successful, research-based parent education programs for parents, primary caregivers, childcare providers and other related groups to strengthen their knowledge and skills of positive parenting practices and that result in positive community impacts.
  • Listen to clientele, build networks to assess locals needs and collaborate with communities of people.
  • Develop a broad-based marketing campaign that enhances public awareness of the importance of parenting and available programs and services. Be a voice in mass and social media outreach.
  • Willing and able to travel and adjust to a flexible schedule (i.e., participate in evening and weekend programs).
  • Be an active learner to keep relevant with related research, new teaching strategies, technology and advances in the professional field.
  • Be self-directed with minimal supervision in the work environment.

Location:

This position is located in Dickinson, North Dakota in the West Dakota Parent and Family Resource Center, which is a collaboration between NDSU Extension and Dickinson Public Schools. Dickinson is the county seat of Stark County and has a population of 25,130 people as of the 2023 census. Dickinson serves as a regional retail hub and is home to the Dickinson-Theodore Roosevelt Airport, the Ukrainian Cultural Institute, a world-class dinosaur museum, Dickinson State University, medical facilities, unique shopping, and excellent schools. Located approximately 100 miles west of the capital city of Bismarck, Dickinson is the midpoint between Fargo, North Dakota and Billings, Montana. Dickinson is approximately 30 miles from Theodore Roosevelt National Park in the Badlands and future home of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library. Dickinson’s economy focuses on diverse resources of agriculture, energy (coal, ethanol, natural gas, and oil), manufacturing and tourism. Dickinson is the perfect place for a person who enjoys a mid-sized community and has an interest in outdoors activities like hiking, hunting, and fishing. Work Schedule:

  • Monday through Friday
  • 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Some evening and weekend work required


Advertised Salary:

  • Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human development and family sciences, family and consumer sciences education, education, or related field.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use Microsoft office programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with individuals, groups and through mass media.
  • Ability to conduct oneself professionally, be self-directed in the work environment and work flexible and extended hours.
  • Ability to use technology for communication, information finding, program delivery, and reporting.
  • Familiarity with various ethnic and socioeconomic audiences, an interest and ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Valid driver’s license.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a related field to human development and family sciences, and/or certified parent educator.
  • Experience recruiting and managing employees.
  • Experience in designing and delivering educational programs.
  • Recent Extension work experience.
  • Experience with problem solving and conflict management.
  • Professional work in the area of parent education.
