EFNEP / FNP Lead Program Coordinator and Community Health & Nutrition Specialist

The EFNEP / FNP Lead Program Coordinator and Community Health & Nutrition Specialist, is a 12-month, non-tenure track, 100% Extension position.

The specialist is a member of a statewide Extension Family and Community Wellness team responsible for providing leadership to create and deliver innovative learning experiences that empower North Dakotans to improve their lives and communities through science-based education.

The Family Nutrition Program (FNP) provides SNAP-Education for North Dakotans at risk for food insecurity through evidence-based educational programming and other outreach to improve access to healthful food and physical activity opportunities.

The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) is a nutrition education program for low resource families with children.

This position will be supervised by the Assistant Director, Family & Community Wellness.

The position includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities :

Grant Administration 45%

  • Work with assistant director and EFNEP / FNP program coordinator to establish program goals, assess needs, evaluate and report outcomes.
  • Provide day-to-day administrative oversight for NDSU Extension EFNEP and FNP.
  • Assist in the development of an EFNEP plan of work, FNP state proposal, and federal reports annually.
  • Interpret and apply federal policies and management recommendations.
  • Responsible for the management of routine audits.

Support EFNEP / FNP Program Staff 30%

  • Maintain regular contact with EFNEP / FNP staff members and other county Extension agents involved in nutrition education.
  • Work with district directors and EFNEP / FNP program coordinator to assist in the recruitment and hiring of EFNEP and FNP educators.
  • Work with the EFNEP / FNP Program Coordinator to provide training and mentorship to EFNEP and FNP educators statewide.
  • Provide feedback to district directors related to EFNEP and FNP educators work for annual reviews if requested.

Educational Programming 25%

  • Identify evidence-based programs and contribute to the development of programs that EFNEP and FNP educators can teach to local constituents.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate a continuum of health, nutrition and wellness educational programs and initiatives for youth and adults.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholder groups (e.g., state, regional and federal agencies, government officials, city planners, public health agencies, community groups, for-profits and non-profits, and community members)
  • Contribute to research and scholarship in community health and nutrition.NDSU holds the copyright for Extension developed materials.

Other

  • Ensure compliance with federal, tribal, state and local law, policies and procedures, including Civil Rights, youth protection and NDSU Human Resources.
  • Read and abide by all the rules and regulations at NDSU as outlined in the NDSU Policy Manual.
  • Be an active learner and keep relevant with new teaching strategies, advances in the professional field, technology, news and related research.
  • Be self-directed with minimal supervision in the work environment.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment through cooperation, collaboration and teamwork with others by developing and maintaining good working relationships with co-workers, faculty, staff, employees, and clientele.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Master’s degree in food, nutrition, education or related field
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective collaborations with others including diverse clientele, other agencies, advisory groups, professional peers and volunteers
  • Experience in program development / management of teaching adults
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to keep accurate and complete work records
  • Experience using technology for program development, implementation and evaluation
  • Ability to organize multiple projects and work independently and part of a team
  • A valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience working with and writing / managing federal programs or other granting agencies
  • Ability to understand and work with limited resource families
  • Demonstrated knowledge of tools and approaches to creating systems change around nutrition and physical activity
  • Extension experience
