EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or a closely related field from an accredited four-year college or university
Four years successful experience in Communications, Public Relations, or Journalism

High School Diplomas and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency.
PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY :
Assists in gathering, developing and disseminating information about North East Independent School District programs and services to appropriate target audiences.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Generates positive publicity for activities and programs of the District by seeking out suitable news and feature information from campuses and departments.
2. Compiles news and feature articles for internal and external media releases, newsletters and other publications.
3. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with members of the print and broadcast media.
4. Coordinates the Superintendent’s Awards ceremony and Leadership North East program by reviewing staff and volunteer nominations, gathering information for program book and certificates, writing scripts for event and arranging venue, food and entertainment.
5. Maintains database of key community members, and designs, writes and edits regular communication materials for them.
6. Administers recognitions for NEISD events by working with departments to identify external opportunities that recognize the accomplishments of the District, its students and staff.
7. Contribute to and edit brochures, publications, presentations, and videos.
8. Contributes content to District web site.
9. Contributes content to the District-wide newsletters which feature information on pertinent educational issues, staff and student achievements, administrative action and Board Meetings.
10. Assists in the development and maintenance of District web pages using Adobe Contribute, Microsoft Front Page and Basic HTML. Contributes web content and organizes information for greater usability.
11. Assists in event and meeting planning for the Communications Department and for the District.
12. Photographs school and District activities and maintains a photo file for the Communications Department and the District for use in publications, papers and campus uses and assist in production of audiovisuals.
13. Researches and responds to inquiries from the media, campuses, departments, Board Members, parents and the public in a timely manner and refers appropriate inquiries to the Executive Director.
14. Assists in evaluating the implementation of the District's Communication Plan by creating and maintaining logs, records and other documentation.
15. Maintains a high degree of knowledge of current educational events and trends.
16. Conducts oneself in a professional, ethical manner in accordance with generally accepted community standards and Texas Education Agency Code of Ethics.
17. Maintains strictest level of confidentiality as required by FERPA and other legal, professional and District standards.
18. Constantly seeks to improve the Communications Department using various public relations techniques and evaluation methods.
19. Seeks out and participates in professional development programs and professional organization.
20. Applies information and skills acquired at various professional development seminars and meetings.
21. Reports to work every day and must be able to attend some events and meetings outside of normal work hours, such as Board Meetings, public hearings, school and District events.
22. Performs additional duties and accepts other responsibilities as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Knowledge of media operations and public relations functions
  • Familiar with Macromedia Dreamweaver and Basic HTML, scanning and digital photography; ability to adapt and learn new software
  • Demonstrated skill in Adobe publishing products (Page Maker, Acrobat, Photo Shop, In-Design)
  • Excellent oral communication skills; excellent writing, proofreading and editing skills, persuasive and diplomacy skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision (self-starter)
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a high stress, crisis-oriented, fast-paced office
  • Ability to work with others and possess excellent interpersonal skills
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License with driving record that meets the requirements of the District

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is frequently required to drive personal vehicle in the performance of assigned tasks.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The work environment is fast-paced and high stress.
