What are the responsibilities and job description for the Benefits Coordinator - Women's Health position at North Florida Women's Care?
North Florida Women's Care is seeking a full-time Benefits Coordinator to support the complete patient benefits process. This person will be responsible for inputting patient data, distributing benefits information, and monitoring the patient’s account receivable (A/R), ensuring patient confidentiality and customer service is at the forefront.
Responsibilities
- Provide support to patients, staff, and insurance companies regarding benefits and eligibility, account balance, etc. by various methods including incoming telephone calls, EMR patient portal/instant messages, email, in person contact, etc.
- Ensure the accuracy of patient and insurance information is entered in the EMR system for each date of service/procedure.
- Utilize various methods of benefit and eligibility verification including real-time eligibility, insurance portals, calling the patient &/or insurance payer to obtain current information.
- Prepare the daily deposit as needed.
- Oversee patient accounts for maternity care, surgery and office procedures as listed below:
-Verify active in-network coverage.
-Calculate patient responsibility.
-Communicate with patients to explain benefits information.
-Collect payment &/or set up an automated payment plan for patient financial responsibility within the company’s guidelines.
-Monitor patient accounts to ensure coverage and payments remain up to date.
-Review scheduled appointments and collect any outstanding balances prior to the scheduled visit.
-Notify patients of out-of-network coverage and expected estimate amount to be paid at time of service.
-Set up patient automated payment plans in EMR.
- Monitor the patient A/R as listed below:
-Collect outstanding balances.
-Prepare accounts for outside collection agencies.
-Process refund requests.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including comfortability with sensitive financial matters.
- Ability to multi-task with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to use a computer with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and EMR software.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and thorough knowledge of HIPAA policies and procedures.
- Ability and willingness to adapt to changes as necessary.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ensures all work exhibits a high level of quality through attention to detail and monitoring of work.
- May be required to lift and carry up to 20 pounds in the form of computer paper, equipment, or other materials.
- Must be able to concentrate for extended periods of time, paying attention to detail.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and demonstrate manual dexterity while performing job duties.
- Operating standard office machines, including a computer, frequent ability to move freely about the office building, answering/using the telephone, and correcting vision and hearing to normal range.
- Requires occasional bending, reaching, and stretching.
Education and Experience
- High School education or GED equivalent.
- Minimum one year of medical office experience.
- Working knowledge of general office duties.
- Working knowledge of insurance verification process.
