CAREER ADVISOR
CATEGORY/LEVEL: PSS/7
BASIC FUNCTION: Provide individual and group career advising and job search coaching to help
new and current students make informed career decisions, explore occupational
choices, prepare for an effective job search, and connect with part-time,
internship, and full-time employment opportunities. This position will include
evening and weekend responsibilities.

This is a federally funded position.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Starting salary of $41,500 to $49,800 based on qualifications and experience. Benefits package includes Blue Cross/Blue Shield major medical health insurance; eye care, dental, life and disability insurance; paid vacation and sick leave; a choice of IPERS or TIAA retirement plans, and a variety of additional optional benefits.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three years of experience in a high school or college student services area.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Community college experience is highly recommended.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
• Use expert knowledge of careers and labor market information to enable students to identify, access, interpret, and utilize valid, current, and relevant information.
• Utilize appropriate information technology, social media, and web-based resources.
• Provide admissions advising for prospective students and their parents.
• Facilitate campus visits and prospective student appointments.
• Guide students throughout career and pathway exploration to devise well-informed academic and career plans that align with students’ interests and strengths.
• Utilize appropriate standardized assessment instruments in conjunction with guidance activities to clarify their career path.
• Implement academic advising strategies and track student learning outcomes/achievements.
• Participate and support all key departmental operations including program enrollment level records, transfer updates report, proper file documentation, departmental meetings, strategic planning, and program assessment.
• Provide outreach services in various settings for students and parents who need direct assistance in completing enrollment steps.
• Identify students and parents who need personalized assistance with choosing program of study.
Perform in a manner which strengthens the coordination and cooperation of all organizational components of the College, including opportunities for student recruitment.
