In August 2021, North Lawndale Employment Network transitioned to a new campus which features a premier community café for residents and stakeholders.
North Lawndale Employment Network seeks a Regional Café Manager will oversee the daily operations of multiple café locations, ensuring operational excellence, financial growth, and an exceptional customer experience. This leadership role focuses on developing and managing teams, driving performance, and implementing strategic initiatives to enhance both service and profitability. The manager will also work closely with the HR and Programs departments to recruit and train new staff, while ensuring all cafés maintain compliance with health and safety regulations. Additionally, the role involves managing vendor relationships, overseeing marketing efforts, and supporting community engagement activities to strengthen brand presence. This individual will also collaborate with café managers to enhance catering services and build customer loyalty programs.
Responsibilities include:
Leadership & Talent Development
- Leads the recruitment, interview, and selection process for café managers and key staff across multiple locations, in consultation with HR & Director of Social Enterprise – Business Operations.
- Develops and oversees training programs to maintain consistency in service, product quality, and operational excellence.
- Works with the Programs department to establish a pipeline of North Lawndale talent through education, outreach, and barista apprentice programs.
- Ensures café managers effectively onboard and train new staff within the first 90 days of employment.
- Conducts 30-60-90 day and annual performance evaluations for café managers, providing feedback and strategic direction.
Operations & Performance Management
- Creates and manages staffing schedules for multiple locations, balancing labor costs and operational needs.
- Develops operational policies and procedures to standardize service quality, guest experience, and efficiency across all cafés.
- Prepares and delivers timely performance reports for each café, analyzing key performance indicators (KPIs), financial data, and guest feedback.
- Oversees compliance with food safety regulations and local business requirements, ensuring each location meets operational and health standards.
- Works with café managers to maintain and enhance customer loyalty programs.
Financial Oversight & Strategy
- Assists in the preparation and management of budgets for café operations, optimizing cost control and revenue growth.
- Monitors financial performance across locations, identifying trends and implementing strategies for increased profitability.
- Ensures proper cash management practices in accordance with Finance Department guidelines.
- Provides recommendations for regular pricing reviews and menu optimization to drive revenue.
Vendor & Product Management
- Oversees vendor relationships, sourcing high-quality and cost-effective products for all café locations.
- Ensures product consistency while allowing for seasonal and special menu variations.
- Works with café managers to track and manage inventory efficiently.
Marketing & Community Engagement
- Collaborates with the marketing team to plan and execute regional promotional campaigns, sales initiatives, and brand strategies.
- Provides content and visual input for social media and promotional materials.
- Engages with local communities to build brand awareness and maintain strong customer relationships.
Catering & Special Events
- Oversees the execution of high-quality catering services across locations, ensuring consistency and efficiency.
- Works with café managers to expand catering services and enhance customer satisfaction.
Qualifications:
- 3 years of experience in a multi-unit managerial role, preferably in the food & beverage industry.
- Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams across multiple locations.
- Strong financial acumen, with the ability to analyze financial reports and set strategic goals.
- Extensive knowledge of foodservice operations, customer service best practices, and hospitality trends.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and POS systems.
- Current Food Manager’s Certification required.
- Ability to travel between café locations as needed.
- Must be able to stand, walk, and move 6-8 hours per day while on shift.
- Must be able to bend, reach, and lift up to 50 lbs.

The salary range for this position is $70,000-$85,000 depending on relevant experience.
