Position Summary:
The Bus Aide plays a crucial role in assisting with the transportation of students, including those with special needs, within the North Little Rock School District. Responsibilities include helping with loading and unloading students, ensuring students' adherence to safety rules, and maintaining order on the bus.
Essential Functions:
- Clocks in at scheduled duty time and is on the bus before departure.
- Rides only on the assigned bus, unless directed otherwise by a Dispatcher.
- Sits in a seat facilitating student observation and management, typically at the rear of the bus or behind the last occupied student seat.
- Assists the bus driver, parents, and school personnel in loading and unloading students, particularly preschool and physically impaired students.
- Checks the wheelchair lift operation daily and reviews wheelchair securing points and occupant restraints for proper functioning.
- Assists the bus driver and students in following school bus rules and procedures.
- Maintains an updated seating chart with student information and ensures each student's presence on the bus.
- Ensures seat belts, wheelchair securing points, and occupant restraints are properly stored when not in use.
- Remains alert to student needs, provides directions, and maintains order, unless attending to student needs.
- Keeps records of student injuries and reports them immediately to Coordinators or school personnel.
- Submits misconduct information to building administrators, and encourages conferences with parents, guardians, and school staff regarding student behavior.
- Performs various relevant duties, including securing wheelchairs, cleaning up students, helping the driver clean the bus, securing carry-on items, and assisting with inspections.
- Familiarize themselves with assigned routes, runs, bus stops, student names, and exceptionalities. Provides assistance to substitute bus drivers when needed.
- Maintains knowledge of first-aid procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.
