Civil Engineering Summer Internship
Department : Streets
Reports To : Streets Supervisor
FLSA Status : Non-exempt
Summary :
- Assist in the construction and maintenance of streets, roadways, and public infrastructure projects
- Execute road repairs, stormwater management, and civil infrastructure projects
- Operate and assist in maintaining heave equipment such as graders, loaders and excavators
- Perform minor cement work, including on flat services and sidewalk areas
- Participate in a variety of street maintenance projects, including roadway resurfacing, pothole repairs, and curbing installations
- Help perform routine inspections of city roads, bridges, and stormwater facilities
- General labor tasks, including loading / unloading materials, cleaning curbs and gutters
- Learn how to use, maintain, and repair hand tools used in civil engineering and maintenance work
- Assist in ensuring safety protocols are followed at worksites, adhering to best practices for public safety and worksite health
- Help monitor and maintain compliance with state stormwater laws and regulations, including preparing basic reports and records
- Observe and participate in minor construction tasks, including basic welding if applicable
- Complete records of tasks and projects you assist with during the internship
- Take part in all relevant safety and operational training
- Other duties may be assigned as needed, depending on project requirements
