What are the responsibilities and job description for the Birth Tissue Coordinator position at North Louisiana Tissue Bank?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Assist in the daily operations of donor birth tissue acquisition. Will perform daily duties at various hospital sites and in office, in a clinical environment. Ensure medical records are printed, collected, and entered in our electronic documentation system. Ensure sterile collection/ shipping/handling of tissue. Maintain positive, professional relationships with processors/hospital, physicians, their staff, and donors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Package and ship donor tissue according to protocol; coordinate logistics for supplies and tissue at off-site hospital locations
- Perform in-depth review of donor charts to make sure all information is accurate and complete in our electronic system.
- Evaluate and qualify medical records to determine suitability of tissue by investigating the donor’s medical and social background by review of questionnaires, medical records, forms, etc.
- Consult with Quality team on any issues/questions related to donor suitability
- Package and ship donor blood specimens for analysis/testing
- Complete necessary forms to maintain accurate donor records, and tracking logs related to packaging and shipping
- Ensure proper labeling and identification is maintained on quarantined tissue, blood, and microbiology samples.
- Maintain a positive, professional relationship with hospital staff and physicians
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Technical certification or Associate degree preferred
- Prefer degree in science related field (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Nursing); Technical certification may be required in some areas
- 2 years of experience in related area of responsibility
- Prefer knowledge of AATB, FDA, and other state/federal regulations
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with a focus on customer service
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.)
- Organized, flexible, and able to multi-task while maintaining a high level of efficiency and attention to detail
- Must show aptitude to develop appropriate skills for the job
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work will be performed in the Office setting with occasional visits to Labor and Delivery Department of a hospital. Must follow appropriate dress code (scrubs) and adhere to the hospital credentialing and registration system, which requires up-to-date vaccines. Will be required to drive to hospitals (up to 250 miles away). Occasional travel outside of assigned home region/hospital, including out-of-state, as needed by team; less than 10%.

Pay: $500.00 - $1,000.00 per week
Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
