Position Summary

Supports the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development of students by applying expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior. Working collaboratively with educators, parents, and other professionals, the School Psychologist helps to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community. Responsibilities include conducting psychological assessments, developing intervention strategies, supporting special education eligibility decisions, and promoting positive student outcomes through prevention, consultation, and direct service delivery.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Master's degree (M.A.) in School or Educational Psychology and a minimum of two years' experience working with children preferred.
  2. Must meet all other TSPC license requirements, including Background and Criminal History Clearance.
  3. Demonstrates high level of communication skills and meets District standards for oral and written language proficiency in English, and if applicable, in Spanish or Russian.
  4. Knowledge and clear understanding of the subject and content level Oregon State Standards, and ability to provide effective instruction and support to students in their learning of the content.
  5. Skill in leadership and facilitation, including problem-solving and conflict resolution.
  6. Knowledge of human growth and development at assigned instructional level(s).
  7. Knowledge of effective student behavior management methods.
  8. Demonstrates computer literacy and operates software programs as related to job responsibilities
  9. Demonstrates an awareness of and sensitivity to multicultural and multilingual values and environments
  10. Ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently with staff, students, parents, and stakeholder groups.
  11. Possess communication skills for small and large groups that make people feel welcome and valued.
  12. Ability to discern and provide important information families need from a place of caring and concern.
  13. Experience working with diverse cultures and families impacted by trauma or poverty.
  14. Use communication skills to positively impact students and engage in culturally responsive practices at all times.
  15. Knowledge and use of Culturally Responsive Teaching Practices aligned with Zarretta Hamond’s “Ready for Rigor” Framework.
  16. Ability to seek professional growth, improve classroom instruction, and to qualify for certification by following both state and district regulations.
  17. Demonstrates support for District Core Values, District Mission, and District Strategic Plan.
  18. Ability to interpret and implement all Board policies, Federal and State Laws, Administrative Regulations, and negotiated agreement
  19. Believes all students can learn and holds high expectations for student learning.

Essential Responsibilities Related to Position

  1. Prepares, organizes, and maintains confidential files and students' records in accordance with NMSD, state, and federal policies and guidelines.
  2. Provides a verbal and written report of test data and interpretation.
  3. Provides consultation services and/or in-services regarding learning, academic, self-sufficiency, behavioral, and other student needs.
  4. Makes recommendations for interventions with a preventative focus.
  5. Facilitates appropriate referral processes.
  6. Develops, selects, and uses appropriate assessment tools and effectively interprets results.
  7. Conducts initial and three-year intellectual and achievement assessments for students.
  8. Provides formal and informal assessment of behavior for students.
  9. Participates collaboratively on a team to determine eligibility and develop the IEP.
  10. Communicates clearly and effectively in a variety of situations, including difficult ones, with agency staff, district staff, and the public.
  11. Participates in and/or provides consultation to Student Study Teams or school district pre-referral systems.
  12. Maintains accurate, complete, and confidential records as required by law and District policy and regulations.
  13. Pursues ongoing professional growth and opportunities to maintain and improve skills.
  14. Provide training to staff members.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.

  7. Communicates clearly and effectively in a variety of situations, including difficult ones, with school staff, agency staff, students, district staff, and the public.
  8. Maintains positive public relations, demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills, and acts as a team player.
  9. Maintains regular attendance at work and work activities, and is punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedules.

Ethical Responsibilities

  1. Demonstrates an understanding of laws and policies related to student rights and school psychology (e.g., for educational equity, appropriate education for students with disabilities, confidentiality, privacy, appropriate treatment of students, reporting in situations related to possible child abuse.)
  2. Works with the school leadership team to ensure local policies do no harm to students. Also works to identify barriers to student success and to design systemic efforts to improve school success for each student. 

 

Special Considerations

  1. This position requires traveling between multiple work sites (buildings within the same campus)
  2. Bilingual Spanish preferred, but not required
  3. Experience with 
    1. Standards-based instruction.
    2. High yield and research-based instructional strategies.
    3. Student-centered assessment practices, including the on-going feedback loops.
    4. Differentiated teaching strategies and scaffolding techniques for supporting the learning needs of all students.
    5. Practices to address issues of equity and access to learning in the classroom.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with applicable District Performance Standards and District Policy and Regulations concerning personnel evaluation.

 

Terms of Employment

Position is a 197 day contract. The start date for this position is August 19 for the 2025-2026 school year.

*School Psychologists will receive a twelve percent (12%) differential on top of their base salary.
