TITLE: Nutritional Services - Cook
REPORTS TO AND IS EVALUATED BY: School Cafeteria Manager; Director of Nutritional Services
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time bargaining Unit Position; 10-Month Work Year/Student Days; Non-Exempt. 90-day probationary period applies for performance and benefits.
ANTICIPATED START DATE: ASAP
LOCATION: North Middle School
COMPENSATION: In accordance with Nutritional Services Collective Bargaining Agreement.
PRINCIPAL FUNCTION: To prepare and assist in the serving of food items in accordance with NSLP/SBP, Serv-Safe and the District’s Nutritional Services Department rules, regulations and guidelines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan for the preparation of food in accordance with the menu planned by the School Cafeteria Manager and the Director of Nutritional Services.
- Maintain proper food preparation techniques at all times.
- Assist in the serving of food as requested by the School Cafeteria Manager and/or the Director of Nutritional Services.
- Assist in operation of POS computers, including cash handing, as needed.
- Ensure, in consultation with the School Cafeteria Manager, that necessary supplies and/or equipment are on hand to meet all menu requirements.
- Recognize problems that may arise in the preparation of food and work with the School Cafeteria Manager to devise creative and resourceful solutions.
- Ensure that food is properly placed in serving lines in a timely manner and that refills are accomplished in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Department of Nutritional Services.
- Ensure that the serving line is equipped with the proper tools for serving.
- Ensure that food temperature, serving techniques and service portions are in accordance with NSLP/SBP, Serv-Safe and the District’s Department of Nutritional Services rules, regulations and guidelines.
- Assist in the cleaning of all Nutritional Services facilities, including, but not limited to, wiping down tables, at the direction of the School Cafeteria Manager.
- Maintain a positive attitude and emphasize teamwork to accomplish building, Department and District goals.
- Maintain all required records pertaining to the preparation and service of food.
- Assume other duties as assigned by the School Cafeteria Manager and the Director of Nutritional Services.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- High School Diploma or demonstrated ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic.
- National Restaurant Association Serv-Safe Certification or approved equivalent food safety and sanitation certification required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of five (5) years experience in the Food Service industry; previous cooking experience preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUISITE SKILLS:
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Strong organizational skills as well as insight and problem-solving ability.
- School Nutrition Association of Pennsylvania Certification preferred.
- Excellent personal hygiene.
- Any additional or alternative qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Board of School Directors.
