Job Description:
North Middlesex Regional High School is seeking a dedicated, passionate, and experienced Varsity Boys Volleyball Coach to lead and inspire our student-athletes. The ideal candidate will embody the principles of education-based athletics, using volleyball as a platform to develop life skills such as teamwork, leadership, resilience, and responsibility. This role requires a strong commitment to fostering personal growth, academic success, and character development in student-athletes.
The coach will work collaboratively with parents, caregivers, and the school community to create an inclusive and supportive environment where student-athletes can thrive both on and off the court.
The successful candidate must meet all NFHS and MIAA coaching requirements and align with the educational philosophy of our athletic program.
Key Responsibilities:
Life Skills Development:
Use volleyball as a tool to teach life skills, including teamwork, leadership, discipline, communication, and time management.
Help athletes understand how to apply these skills beyond the court.
Education-Based Athletics:
Emphasize the importance of balancing academic and athletic responsibilities.
Maintain clear communication with athletes, parents, and staff about academic eligibility and expectations as per MIAA and school policies.
Coaching and Mentorship:
Provide strong leadership and mentorship to athletes, fostering personal growth and skill development in volleyball.
Build a supportive, positive team culture.
Practice and Game Preparation:
Plan and execute daily practices focusing on skill development, conditioning, and team strategies.
Prepare athletes mentally and physically for competition.
Character and Sportsmanship:
Promote good sportsmanship, respect, and ethical behavior.
Act as a role model by demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and fairness.
Team Building:
Foster team bonding and collaboration to create a sense of unity.
Encourage pride in representing the school and its athletic programs.
Communication:
Maintain open communication with parents, school administration, and staff regarding athlete performance, team progress, and upcoming events.
Collaborate with parents and guardians as partners in athlete development.
Safety and Wellness:
Adhere to all safety protocols, including injury prevention, concussion management, and emergency preparedness.
Stay informed on health and wellness trends affecting student-athletes.
Recruitment and Retention:
Encourage student participation in the volleyball program and work to retain players throughout their high school careers.
Build excitement and interest in boys' volleyball across the school community.
NFHS and MIAA Compliance:
Fulfill all coaching certifications and training required by the NFHS and MIAA, including Fundamentals of Coaching, First Aid, CPR, Concussion Management, and Ethics Training.
Program Development:
Work with school administration to grow and enhance the boys’ volleyball program, building a foundation for long-term success.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
Previous experience coaching volleyball, preferably at the high school or collegiate level, with a strong focus on education-based athletics.
Strong knowledge of volleyball fundamentals, strategies, and skill development.
Ability to integrate life skills development into coaching.
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Familiarity with NFHS and MIAA requirements, including:
NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certification
NFHS Concussion in Sports Certification
First Aid & CPR Certification
MIAA Coaching Education Program
Background Check (CORI/SORI)
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Sports Management, or a related field.
Previous collegiate playing or coaching experience.
Experience with diverse student populations.
Proven ability to use sports as a tool for life skills and academic success.
Salary:
Per NMRSD Teacher Contract.
