Job Description:
North Middlesex Regional High School is seeking a dedicated and experienced Head Varsity Softball Coach to lead our softball program. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the sport and a strong commitment to using softball as a tool to promote character development, teamwork, and academic success in student-athletes.
The Head Varsity Softball Coach will oversee all aspects of the softball program, including planning practices, developing game strategies, mentoring athletes, and fostering a positive, inclusive team culture. This individual will work collaboratively with parents, caregivers, and the school community to ensure a successful and meaningful athletic experience for all participants.
The successful candidate must meet all NFHS and MIAA coaching requirements and align with the educational philosophy of North Middlesex Regional High School’s athletic program.
Key Responsibilities:
1.Leadership and Mentorship:
•Serve as a role model for student-athletes, promoting sportsmanship, integrity, and respect.
•Mentor athletes in leadership, resilience, and responsibility, both on and off the field.
2.Program Development:
•Build and maintain a competitive and inclusive softball program that emphasizes skill development, teamwork, and pride in the school community.
•Develop and implement practice plans focused on improving individual skills, team dynamics, and game strategies.
3.Game Preparation and Strategy:
•Plan and execute game strategies to prepare the team for high-level competition.
•Analyze game performance to identify areas for improvement and adjust strategies accordingly.
4.Education-Based Athletics:
•Promote the importance of academics by supporting student-athletes in balancing their academic and athletic responsibilities.
•Monitor academic eligibility and collaborate with school staff to support student-athletes’ academic success.
5.Team Culture and Sportsmanship:
•Foster a positive team culture where athletes feel valued, respected, and supported.
•Promote sportsmanship and ethical behavior among players, coaches, and the broader softball community.
6.Communication:
•Maintain open and effective communication with student-athletes, parents, school administration, and staff regarding expectations, schedules, and team progress.
•Engage with parents and caregivers as partners in the development of student-athletes.
7.Collaboration and Community Engagement:
•Work with the athletic department and youth programs to build interest and continuity in the softball program.
•Promote the program within the community to encourage school and fan support.
8.Safety and Wellness:
•Ensure all safety protocols are followed, including injury prevention, proper equipment use, and concussion management.
•Stay informed about trends and practices in student-athlete health and wellness.
9.Compliance with NFHS and MIAA Requirements:
•Meet all coaching certifications, training, and regulations required by NFHS and MIAA, including First Aid, CPR, Concussion Management, and Ethics Training.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
•Previous coaching experience in softball, preferably at the high school or collegiate level.
•Comprehensive knowledge of softball fundamentals, strategies, and skill development.
•Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
•Ability to mentor student-athletes and emphasize life skills development.
•Familiarity with NFHS and MIAA requirements, including:
•NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certification
•NFHS Concussion in Sports Certification
•First Aid & CPR Certification
•MIAA Coaching Education Program
•Background Check (CORI/SORI)
Preferred Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in Education, Sports Management, or a related field.
•Previous playing experience at the collegiate level.
•Experience in building and maintaining a successful program.
•Experience working with diverse student populations.
Salary:
Per NMRSD Teacher Contract.
