Job Description:
North Middlesex Regional High School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Junior Varsity Softball Coach to lead the development of student-athletes at the JV level. The JV Coach will be responsible for fostering a positive, inclusive, and growth-oriented environment where players can improve their skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship while preparing for varsity-level competition.
The ideal candidate will emphasize education-based athletics, focusing on student-athletes’ personal growth, character development, and academic success alongside athletic performance. The JV Coach will collaborate closely with the Head Varsity Coach to ensure alignment with the overall program goals and philosophy.
The successful candidate must meet all NFHS and MIAA coaching requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
1.Team Leadership and Development:
•Lead the Junior Varsity softball team, creating a positive and supportive team culture.
•Teach softball fundamentals, techniques, and strategies to develop athletes for varsity-level play.
2.Practice and Game Preparation:
•Plan and organize engaging practices that focus on skill development, conditioning, and teamwork.
•Prepare athletes mentally and physically for game competition, emphasizing effort and improvement.
3.Collaboration with Varsity Program:
•Work closely with the Head Varsity Coach to align goals, strategies, and philosophies within the softball program.
•Support the Varsity program as needed and ensure a smooth transition for athletes progressing to the next level.
4.Education-Based Athletics:
•Promote academic success by encouraging student-athletes to balance schoolwork and athletics.
•Monitor academic eligibility and collaborate with school staff to support student-athletes’ academic performance.
5.Team Culture and Sportsmanship:
•Foster a positive, inclusive team environment where all players feel valued and supported.
•Model and promote sportsmanship, ethical behavior, and respect on and off the field.
6.Communication:
•Maintain open communication with student-athletes, parents, and school administration regarding expectations, schedules, and team progress.
•Engage with parents and guardians to build a strong support system for student-athletes.
7.Safety and Wellness:
•Ensure all safety protocols are followed during practices and games, including injury prevention and proper equipment use.
•Respond to injuries and emergencies following district and school guidelines.
8.Compliance with NFHS and MIAA Requirements:
•Meet all required coaching certifications, training, and regulations as set by NFHS and MIAA.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
•Previous coaching or playing experience in softball, with knowledge of the sport’s fundamentals and strategies.
•Ability to mentor and support student-athletes in their personal and athletic development.
•Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
•Familiarity with NFHS and MIAA requirements, including:
•NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certification
•NFHS Concussion in Sports Certification
•First Aid & CPR Certification
•MIAA Coaching Education Program
•Background Check (CORI/SORI)
Preferred Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in Education, Sports Management, or a related field.
•Previous coaching experience at the high school or youth level.
•Commitment to supporting the development of the overall softball program.
•Experience working with diverse student populations.
Salary:
Per NMRSD Teacher Contract.
