Job Title: Unified Track and Field Coach School: North Middlesex Regional High School Location: 19 Main St, Townsend, MA 01469 Job Type: Spring 2025 Season Job Description: North Middlesex Regional High School is seeking a compassionate, experienced, and dedicated Unified Track and Field Coach to lead and support the Unified Track and Field program. The ideal candidate will have experience in coaching track and field, a commitment to inclusion, and a passion for providing opportunities for students with and without disabilities to compete together. This coach will be responsible for developing athletes’ skills, fostering teamwork, promoting sportsmanship, and ensuring a positive, inclusive environment for all participants. The Unified Track and Field Coach will work closely with other coaches, athletes, and families to ensure an inclusive, supportive atmosphere that encourages personal growth, academic success, and athletic development. The successful candidate will be required to meet all NFHS and MIAA coaching requirements and promote a safe, positive, and respectful environment for all athletes. Key Responsibilities: 1.Leadership and Mentorship: •Lead and mentor both athletes with and without disabilities, ensuring an inclusive and supportive team environment. •Serve as a positive role model, promoting teamwork, discipline, resilience, and sportsmanship. 2.Program Development: •Plan and conduct practices for both individual and team events, ensuring skill development, physical conditioning, and mental preparedness for competition. •Foster a spirit of inclusion by encouraging collaboration between athletes with and without disabilities, creating a supportive and unified team culture. 3.Athlete Development: •Provide individualized support for athletes, ensuring that each participant’s unique needs are met while developing their track and field skills. •Tailor coaching strategies for athletes of all abilities and ensure they are given opportunities to excel and achieve personal goals. 4.Education-Based Athletics: •Ensure that all athletes maintain academic eligibility and support them in balancing academics and athletics. •Communicate with athletes, parents, and school staff to monitor academic progress and offer assistance as needed. 5.Promote Team Culture and Sportsmanship: •Build a culture of respect, inclusion, and teamwork where all athletes feel valued and motivated to succeed. •Promote positive sportsmanship and ethical behavior, encouraging athletes to respect one another, coaches, and competitors. 6.Meet and Competition Preparation: •Assist with organizing and preparing athletes for Unified Track meets, ensuring that athletes understand the structure of the competition and their individual events. •Help athletes mentally prepare for competitions, focusing on positive performance and teamwork. 7.Communication: •Maintain regular communication with athletes, parents, school administration, and the athletic department to ensure alignment on team expectations, schedules, and athlete progress. •Provide updates on team performance and communicate important information in a timely and clear manner. 8.Safety and Wellness: •Ensure all safety protocols are followed, including injury prevention techniques and safe use of equipment. •Promote athlete wellness, including proper recovery strategies, nutrition, and mental health support. 9.Compliance with NFHS and MIAA Requirements: •Meet all NFHS and MIAA coaching certification and training requirements, including: •NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certification •NFHS Concussion in Sports Certification •First Aid & CPR Certification •MIAA Coaching Education Program •Background Check (CORI/SORI) Qualifications: Required Qualifications: •Experience in coaching or assisting in track and field, with knowledge of event-specific techniques and training methods. •Passion for inclusion and working with athletes of all abilities, including students with disabilities. •Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to build an inclusive and supportive team environment. •Ability to assist with individual and group training, including working with athletes with diverse abilities. •Familiarity with NFHS and MIAA coaching requirements, including: •NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certification •NFHS Concussion in Sports Certification •First Aid & CPR Certification •MIAA Coaching Education Program •Background Check (CORI/SORI) Preferred Qualifications: •Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, Sports Management, or a related field. •Previous coaching experience, preferably in a Unified Sports program. •Experience working with athletes with disabilities or in an inclusive sports setting. •Knowledge of adaptive sports strategies and how to support athletes of varying skill levels.
