Job Description:
North Middlesex Regional High School is seeking a passionate, experienced, and dedicated Head Track and Field Coach to lead the track and field program. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the sport, including sprints, distance, jumps, and throws, and a commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and competitive environment. This coach will be responsible for developing athletes’ skills, creating a team culture that emphasizes teamwork and sportsmanship, and supporting athletes’ academic success.
The Head Track and Field Coach will oversee all aspects of the program, including practice planning, meet preparation, and athlete development. The successful candidate will work closely with the assistant coaches, athletic department, and school community to ensure that student-athletes are prepared for competition and personal growth. The coach will also maintain a strong commitment to education-based athletics.
The successful candidate must meet all NFHS and MIAA coaching requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
1.Leadership and Mentorship:
•Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to student-athletes, emphasizing the development of life skills such as discipline, resilience, teamwork, and time management.
•Serve as a role model for student-athletes, fostering a positive and supportive team culture.
2.Program Management:
•Plan, organize, and conduct practices that focus on skill development, physical conditioning, and team strategy for sprints, distance running, jumps, and throws.
•Develop a comprehensive season plan that includes training schedules, individual athlete development, and performance goals.
3.Athlete Development:
•Work closely with athletes to develop their technical skills in all track and field events, offering individual feedback and support.
•Identify and nurture athletes’ strengths, helping them to reach their full potential.
•Focus on improving both individual performances and team results.
4.Education-Based Athletics:
•Support athletes in balancing academics and athletics, ensuring that all athletes maintain academic eligibility.
•Communicate with parents, athletes, and school staff to monitor and support athletes’ academic progress.
5.Team Culture and Sportsmanship:
•Build a team culture that emphasizes respect, sportsmanship, and collaboration among athletes.
•Foster an environment where athletes feel valued, supported, and motivated to improve.
6.Meet and Competition Preparation:
•Prepare athletes for track and field meets, including the development of meet strategies and mental preparation.
•Ensure that athletes are physically and mentally prepared for competition, focusing on peak performance.
7.Communication:
•Maintain regular communication with athletes, parents, school administration, and the athletic department.
•Provide updates on team performance, upcoming meets, and expectations for student-athletes.
8.Safety and Wellness:
•Ensure that all safety protocols are followed during practices and meets, including injury prevention techniques and proper equipment use.
•Promote a focus on athlete wellness, including recovery, nutrition, and mental health.
9.Compliance with NFHS and MIAA Requirements:
•Ensure all coaching certifications and training are current and meet NFHS and MIAA standards, including:
•NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certification
•NFHS Concussion in Sports Certification
•First Aid & CPR Certification
•MIAA Coaching Education Program
•Background Check (CORI/SORI)
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
•Previous coaching experience in track and field, preferably at the high school or collegiate level.
•Strong knowledge of track and field events, including sprints, distance running, jumps, and throws.
•Ability to develop athletes at all skill levels and foster both individual and team growth.
•Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
•Familiarity with NFHS and MIAA requirements, including:
•NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certification
•NFHS Concussion in Sports Certification
•First Aid & CPR Certification
•MIAA Coaching Education Program
•Background Check (CORI/SORI)
Preferred Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in Education, Sports Management, or a related field.
•Previous collegiate or high school track and field experience as a coach or athlete.
•Strong understanding of training principles, injury prevention, and conditioning programs.
•Experience working with diverse student-athletes.
Salary:
Per NMRSD Teacher Contract.
