Job Description:
North Middlesex Regional High School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Varsity Softball Assistant Coach to support the Head Varsity Coach in leading and developing the softball program. The Assistant Coach will help foster a positive and competitive environment that emphasizes skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth in student-athletes.
The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with the Head Coach to ensure the program aligns with the school’s educational philosophy, prioritizing academic success and character development alongside athletic performance. The Assistant Coach will also assist with practice planning, game strategy, and mentorship to ensure the continued growth of the softball program.
The successful candidate must meet all NFHS and MIAA coaching requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
1.Support the Head Coach:
•Assist the Head Varsity Coach in implementing practice plans, drills, and game strategies.
•Provide guidance and feedback to athletes to enhance their individual and team performance.
2.Athlete Development:
•Focus on teaching softball fundamentals, including proper techniques, game strategies, and sportsmanship.
•Help foster leadership, discipline, and resilience among student-athletes.
3.Practice and Game Preparation:
•Collaborate with the Head Coach to organize and execute daily practices.
•Assist in preparing the team for competition, including warm-ups, in-game coaching, and post-game analysis.
4.Education-Based Athletics:
•Promote academic success by reinforcing the importance of balancing schoolwork and athletics.
•Work with the Head Coach to monitor athletes’ academic eligibility and provide support when needed.
5.Team Culture and Sportsmanship:
•Contribute to creating a positive, inclusive team environment where athletes feel valued and motivated.
•Serve as a role model by demonstrating sportsmanship, ethical behavior, and respect for all participants.
6.Communication:
•Maintain effective communication with athletes, parents, and the Head Coach regarding expectations, schedules, and team updates.
•Act as a liaison between players and the Head Coach when necessary.
7.Safety and Wellness:
•Ensure all safety protocols are followed during practices and games, including injury prevention and proper equipment use.
•Respond to injuries and emergencies according to school and district guidelines.
8.Compliance with NFHS and MIAA Requirements:
•Maintain required coaching certifications and adhere to all NFHS and MIAA regulations.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
•Previous coaching or playing experience in softball, with a strong understanding of the sport’s fundamentals and strategies.
•Ability to mentor and support student-athletes in their personal and athletic development.
•Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
•Familiarity with NFHS and MIAA requirements, including:
•NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certification
•NFHS Concussion in Sports Certification
•First Aid & CPR Certification
•MIAA Coaching Education Program
•Background Check (CORI/SORI)
Preferred Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in Education, Sports Management, or a related field.
•Previous coaching experience at the high school or youth level.
•Commitment to supporting the Head Coach in building a competitive and inclusive softball program.
•Experience working with diverse student populations.
Salary:
Per NMRSD Teacher Contract.
