Job Summary:
The OB Technician is responsible for preparing surgical procedures by selecting supplies, instruments, and equipment, performing surgical counts, maintaining sterile techniques, assisting surgeons, and decontaminating clinical equipment. The role demands good communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to handle stress in a dynamic environment.
Job Functions:
Procedure Preparation:
• Selecting supplies, instruments, and equipment for surgical procedures based on preference lists.
• Performing surgical counts with RN circulator to ensure accuracy and compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
Sterile Technique:
• Maintaining sterility of the operating field and controlling any contamination.
Surgeons Assistant:
• Assisting surgeons as a scrubbed member of the team, performing nurse-supervised duties such as handing instruments, sponges, sutures, catheters, and dressings as needed.
Clinical Equipment:
• Decontaminating, cleaning, and sterilizing instruments for reuse according to hospital policy and procedure.
Maintains Performance:
• Attending required in-services, annual reviews, and competency education programs.
Daily Assignments:
• Completing assignments, including restocking supplies and turning over rooms for next use.
Qualifications:
Education:
• High School Diploma or GED Equivalent (Required)
Licenses and Certifications:
• Surgical Tech certification from an Accredited program or 1 year of experience in lieu of certification (Required)
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification (Required)
Work Experience:
• Three to six months of orientation/training depending on experience (Required)
• 1-3 years of work experience (Preferred)

• Competent to provide care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients (Required)
• Good communication skills and a positive caring attitude toward customers and co-workers (Required)
• Ability to maintain composure in a stressful environment (Required)
