**Supervision:** * Coordinates work flow of phlebotomists in Specimen Processing area * Serves as Charge Medical Technologist (MT) in absence of supervisor or Lead MT **Distribution and Transportation:** * Assures accurate and efficient transportation of lab-related supplies, equipment and specimens * Follows all laws and regulations in the processing and transportation of laboratory specimens **Specimen Handling & Processing:** * Follows regulatory guidelines in handling/processing of laboratory specimens. * Follows proper policy for accurate patient identification and labeling of all specimens **Communication:** * Effectively communicate with all NMHS staff, patients, their family members and customers **Customer Service** * Uses AIDET as applicable * Attends CARES training. * When necessary, assures proper service recovery is done for patients and/or caregivers. * Answers telephone in an polite and efficient manner **Employee Relations:** * Works as part of a team with all Pathology and NMHS employees **Reporting/Recordkeeping:** * Assures department testing, applicable to their area, is reported in an accurate and timely manner * Assists with meeting goals of department Performance Improvement initiatives * Assures appropriate documentation of all required instrument monthly maintenance and quality control **Education:** * Assists with training of students and new employees * Participates in continuing education programs to maintain and expand skills * Stays abreast of regulatory changes **Regulation**: * Adheres to NMHS/NMMC Policies/Procedures/Guidelines * Complies with appropriate Local/State/Federal policies/procedures/guideline/regulations/laws/statues Adheres to College of American Pathologist (CAP) & Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) standards Job Knowledge: * Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biological Science or related field; required * ASCP Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, required within 12 months after incumbent’s graduation form an accredited Medical Technology Program. NOTE: If ASCP certification has recently lapsed, employee will have 90 days to complete continuing education and recertification requirements. * Valid Mississippi Driver’s License and acceptable driving record/history; preferred * Proficient skills with LIS; required * Good organizational and communication (written and verbal) skills; required Knowledge of and appropriate handling of biohazardous specimens; required
