**_Essential Functions:_** A student nurse intern is responsible for providing direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. The intern must be able to communicate effectively with patients, families, and visitors. They must also be able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in the patient's condition or response to treatment. The intern may also perform unit clerical duties and computerized order entry procedures. The intern must maintain a professional demeanor and prioritize tasks as directed by the Charge Nurse. * Performs routine nursing procedures and tasks related to patients within assigned area under the supervision of a nurse. * Assists with patient care by providing or assisting with activities including but not limited to personal hygiene, grooming, feeding, providing fluids, mobility, and comfort. * Communicates patient information, concerns, or issues to appropriate team member * Documents care provided in the electronic health record as appropriate. * Complies with NMHS policies/procedures and state/federal regulatory requirements **_Know How:_** **Job Knowledge**: _Specify required education, licensure/certification, prior experience, skill, behavior, equipment operation, type and duration of on-the-job training, patient population to be served, etc._

• Must be enrolled in one of the final two (2) semesters of a nursing program leading to a degree in nursing. Employment as a Nurse Intern may not extend over a two-semester period.
* Must maintain good standing in the school of nursing where enrolled.
* Must be able to use equipment essential for patient care and follow hospital guidelines for non-critical equipment cleaning.
* Maintains knowledge and resources necessary to provide age appropriate care.
* Must be able to recognize changes and abnormalities in the patient’s condition and report to the registered nurse.
* Must be able to perform collect blood (by venipuncture), urine and sputum specimen.
* Must be able to perform point of care testing for glucose and occult blood.
* Must be able to insert simple urinary catheters with the assistant of other licensed nurse.
