The Physical Therapist Assistant assists in planning, organizing, developing, and directing Physical Therapy Services in the facility in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, and as may be directed by the Administrator or supervisor, to ensure that the highest degree of quality resident care is always maintained.
Shift and Schedule : part-time 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
Essential Duties :
1. Provides physical therapy services to residents under the direct supervision of the Physical Therapist.
2. Conducts screenings of residents at regular intervals to determine the need for intervention / treatment.
3. Identifies indications for evaluations at appropriate intervals and assists in the evaluation under the direction of the Physical Therapist.
4. Assists the Physical Therapist in identifying a target list, including short-term goals, long-term goals and treatment plan.
5. Conducts both individual and group treatment as assigned by the Physical Therapist and outlined in treatment plan that includes, but is not limited to, areas of muscle strength, coordination, mobility, sensory awareness, sitting and standing, transfer training, balance activities, gait training, range of motion activities and modalities.
6. Assists in the selection of physical therapy techniques / media and in the sequence of activities, adapts techniques / media as indicated by the resident's performance and following consultation with the Physical Therapist
7. Monitors residents' response to intervention and consults with the Physical Therapist if modification is indicated.
8. Assists in establishing and modifying individual resident schedules in conjunction with the Physical Therapist and other team members.
9. Adheres to department and resident schedule and modifies as appropriate for treatment regimen.
10. Trains residents, family and appropriate staff in the use or application of such equipment.
11. Participates in resident, family, and staff education.
12. Consistently demonstrates sound judgment in the evaluation, planning, implementation, and follow-up of resident therapy programs.
13. Reports to work on time and coordinates schedule to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during assigned shift.
14. Assists with and participates in Quality Assurance Program as required.
15. Completes compliant and medically necessary documentation from CMS expectations in NetHealth EMR systems
Other Duties
1. Assumes responsibilities for personal work areas and maintaining areas in a presentable manner.
2. Observes all safety rules and regulations.
3. HIPAA Compliance - follows written policies and procedures to ensure confidentiality of protected health information.
4. OIG Compliance - follows written policies and procedures to comply with the federal and state laws and regulations.
5. Attends in-service training and education sessions as assigned.
6. Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by direct supervision or administration.
Qualifications
1. Associates Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program
2. Assumes responsibility for ongoing continuing education and professional development
3. MUST have active Maryland Physical Therapy Assistant license in good standing
4. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
5. Compliance with North Oaks Immunization Requirements.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
Frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, squatting; may be exposed to blood and body fluids which may contain HIV and / or HBV; must be able to transport residents via wheelchair, gerichair or shower chair; pushing up to 150lbs., unassisted. Must be able to transfer, lift, turn, and position a resident weighing up to 50 lbs. unassisted or with the assistance of one for a resident weighing over 125 lbs. Must be able to stoop, bend, stretch, squat, and walk for up to 90% of the workday. May be subjected to offensive odors and combative behavior. Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. frequently, and 50 lbs occasionally.
