Job Summary:
An elementary behavior support staff member provides behavioral and social emotional support and assistance to students in the school setting. They work closely with students and staff, helping to reinforce positive behaviors and providing individualized attention to students who may require additional support.
Qualifications:
- Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Associate's degree or college coursework in education or a related field, preferred.
- Experience: Prior experience working with children, such as in a daycare, camp, or volunteer setting, is preferred. Experience in a school environment is advantageous.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for effectively interacting with students, teachers, parents, and school staff.
- Patience and Empathy: The ability to work patiently with students of different abilities and backgrounds. Having empathy is crucial for building a positive learning environment.
- Organization and Multitasking: Paraprofessionals must be well-organized, able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and adapt to changing needs in the classroom.
- Collaboration: A willingness to work collaboratively with staff to support student success is important.

Key Responsibilities:
- Individualized Support: Provide one-on-one or small group support and/or intervention to students who need additional behavioral or social-emotional support.
- Supervision: Monitor students during classroom activities, recess, lunchtime, and other school-related events to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Classroom Management: Support classroom expectations as directed by the teacher.
- Support Classroom Instruction: Assist the teacher in delivering lessons and activities, reinforcing concepts taught in the classroom.
- Materials Preparation: Help prepare instructional materials and set up equipment as directed by staff.
- Record-Keeping: Assist in maintaining records of student progress and other administrative tasks as required.
- Communication: Collaborate with staff and parents to provide updates on student progress and address concerns.
- Confidentiality: Due to the nature of the role and working closely with students and families, keeps all information confidential.
- Additional Responsibilities: Complete other duties as assigned by the building principal.
Terms:
- Grant-funded position. One position per elementary building.
