General Definition and Scope of Job
Under the supervision and direction of a pharmacist, conducts wide range of delegated technical support functions including clinical, office, and clerical support. Assigned responsibilities may include any functions necessary to support provision of pharmacy products and services to patients and other hospital staff and departments.

Job Status : Full Time, 80 hours every two weeks, 1st shift, M-F with rotating weekend shifts
What are the Minimum Skills, Experience and Educational Requirements?
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years experience as a Certified Pharmacy Technician.
- Possession of active, non-restricted national technician certification from the PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board).
- State of Michigan Pharmacy Technician Licensure.
- Inpatient pharmacy experience preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and interruptions simultaneously.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and customer service skills.

Maintains established departmental practices, policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards.Assists pharmacists in managing incoming telephone calls to ensure proper triage of calls.Participates in educational programs and in-services. Completes required continuing education (CE) credits in order to maintain PTCB certification.Communicate appropriately with co-workers and supervisor.Demonstrates appropriate problem-solving and decision-making skills.Attends departments meetings.Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.ORDER PREPARATION
Accurately prepares medications for pharmacist review prior to being dispensed (drawback syringes, leave products out for verification).
Performs the tasks involved with the preparation and labeling of IV admixtures and the associated record keeping.Prepares floor stock orders, pharmaceutical deliveries, crash cart trays, EMS bags, narcotic deliveries, etc. for patient care units and ancillary departments.Delivers medications to patient care areas within appropriate time frames.Assures that expired medications are removed from inventory and stored properly.Packages dry orals, liquid orals, compounded products in unit-of-use containers, and maintains proper documentation and record keeping.PYXISPerforms required Pyxis duties in a manner that ensures accuracy for optimal patient safety. (Refills, loads, outdates, etc.)
Completes assigned reports / auditsManages assigned Pyxis units (removes expired meds / unused meds)INVENTORY MANGEMENTInsures that pharmacy inventory is maintained at appropriate levels in a cost-conscious manner to promote availability of items included in the Formulary.
Works with wholesaler and suppliers to process purchases, invoices, and resolve billing issues.Inventory management (returning expensive drugs no longer in use, removing expired drugs from inventory and processing returns).Assist with ordering controlled substances and maintaining proper documentation and record keeping.Assists with management of drug stock including, but not limited to, shelving new drugs (with proper rotation of items), arranging stock and organizing storage areas, documenting the need for ordering items, and maintaining proper documentation and record keeping.Assists pharmacists in insuring that drug storage locations are maintained in an appropriate manner, e.g., floor stock, automated dispensing cabinets, crash carts, emergency supplies.Assists customers with acquiring medications for use in physician practices and departments of health system.Conducts appropriate interdepartmental billing and patient charging / crediting.What are the Critical Demands of the Job?
Prolonged standing and / or walking for up to 75% of the day as required.Occasional prolonged sitting with associated keyboarding and deskwork responsibilities for up to 75% of the day as required.Occasional lifting of supplies and / or equipment (must be able to lift up to 40 pounds to a maximum height of six feet).Regular pushing and / or pulling of heavy carts throughout the hospital used for deliveries, restocking, cart exchange, etc.What are the Working Conditions?
